Hi all
My name is Shauna and I have an almost 1 year old Bully named Boo Boo, or just Boo for short. I'm coming on to the forum to get help from those who have similar issues so i'll be reading up over the next while and busy searching for info. Basically we've had a really rough week. Boo started out with a facial infection in her wrinkles which escalated into her having focal facial seizures. We didn't know what was happening and scared of course for her. She's been in hospital most of the week, poked, prodded and scanned and it was determined that she is indeed epileptic but a 'mild' form. (which is somewhat good news i hope?) She came home yesterday, been on Keppra for a couple days now and doing much much better than she was! She is very antsy though where she keeps wandering all around the house, anxious, panting at times and just doesn't want to chill out, so i have yet to find if that is due to the drug or the epilepsy. She's sleeping, snoring, farting away right now which is great. I realize too, that she only started the meds so it does need adequate time to settle in so she can get used to it. I wish i knew how she was feeling or if the stuff is buggin her out. We are to keep a diary of her for the next 2 weeks and then meet with the specialist again where i think they mentioned switching her over to the other 2 common meds. If she's doing ok though on this drug, why switch her? im so nervous when meds are given or changed. just dont want our furkids to hurt or be doped up, you know...

Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself and will be reading up. Any input or advice is welcomed FOR SURE!

Hi there!! :hiya:

It's nice to meet you and I'm so sorry to hear about the problems with Boo. Keppra is a newer medication for humans...and it's just starting to get recognized for use in animals. The two medication they are probably talking about are Potassium bromide and phenobarbital. Phenobarbital is a real common epilepsy medication, but it's an older drug. With this drug come the possibility of Liver damage. So if you can keep Boo off of it, it's probably better.
Right now Vegas is 5 1/2 years old. He was diagnosed with idiopathic epilepsy when he was 10 months old. It is scary scary scary. Vegas has a grand mal seizure about once every 6 weeks, his latest being Friday morning. He also suffers from facial seizures and just recently.....something our neurologist has never seen before. It's misfiring of the brain, but we can stop it simply by giving him something to focus on. Right now that is an everlasting treat ball filled with frozen green beans. Normally, you can't stop a seizure. It's involuntary. But this is a neurological issue also.

Check out my blog and I have details and video in there. Some of the videos can be hard to watch, but I like to keep a diary of what is going on and EBN has given me the perfect place to gather my notes and videos that I can review any time I need to. Please don't hesitate to ask any questions....you can also find us on FB www.facebook.com/vegasbully

Hope to hear from you soon!

Hello, welcome and thanks for coming on board with us. Boo is freakin adorable! I'm so sorry to read about the scary health issues ya'll are dealing with and commend you for sticking through it with her, to help her! I can't help..except to say my Momo has idiopathic head tremors sometimes....not fun, but they do seem to stop, if not "pause" if you get her to focus on something.

Good Luck, you're in the right place here. Please keep us posted and, as always, more pics please. :-)
