Help Needed! Eye care suggestions

Anyone know of any eye care supplements that actually work. Bella's seen two vets over the last 2 months and both seem to think this was "an eye infection" however, I'm beginning to think its more. I tend to think it could be caused by allergies so we put her on Natures Variety Raw to rid her of her yeast issues and hopefully clear up her eyes but a month later still the same. Vet gave us some eye drops (Neomycin and Polymyxin B Sulfate and Gramicidin) and we've continued on those as well. They seem to help for a few hours, then right back comes the green goop and blue haze. Any suggestions?

Not sure, but has any of the vets suggested taking her to an ophthalmologist? I think that's what I would do first and see what they say.

I would consult a opthamologist for sure. The goop could be because of an abrasion/irritation, infection even a condition called dry eye.

You can buy an over the counter product in the drugstore called BLINK. My vet opthamologist recommends it for my Lucy. Use it a few times a day and see if it seem to help the eye by rewetting it. This is really a temporary fix until you can get another vet or opthamologist to give you some better answers. Lucy also takes other prescription drops for her dry eye.

Lucy started off with cyclosporin (compounded in a local pharmacy). She was on that for quite some time. Then the specialist added tacrolomis to see if she would respond better or not at all. So for a period of 6 months or so we would use cyclosporin twice a day for a week or two and then switch to tacrolmis twice a day for a week or so. Doing or little "trial" we felt that she was doing much better on the tacrolomis so we use that practically all of the time now. My eye doc said that every dog is different---just like humans so you have to try different things to find the perfect fit.

Hi there.. Duke has had surgery for his eyes as well. I would take your bully to an ophthalmologist as well. Duke had entropian in both eyes.. it started with dry eyes , then he developed an ulcer. Now he takes prescription eye meds each day for his dry eyes.. but since the surgery hasn't had any further issues. Good Luck to you..

Thanks everyone for the responses. Yes my vet (who I will be changing) said Bella would need the entropion surgery and that she has very dry eyes. Since this vet visit however, I've learned so much about this breed and the importance of having a vet that specializes in them, unfortunately Bella's current vet definitely is not. She made comments at the visit that just did not instill confidence in me that she was BD type of vet. That being said,because of this awesome site, I have found a BD recommended vet in the "recommend a vet" section here that is literally 10 minutes from my house. I will make an appointment Monday. Pick up some BLINK at the drugstore. It will give your pup some relief while you figure out what exactly is going on. Lucy had surgery too for a condition called distichiasis and developed dry eye. Like baby duke commented once you figure out what is wrong and treat with the proper meds your baby will be fine. Please reach out if you have any additional questions.
