to have them removed by an opthalmologist (not the vet)? I am just wondering about a ballpark figure. I was given some cream to soothe Liz's eyes, but I was wondering about having them removed for her. I know some people pluck them out themselves, but I may be too squeamish to try.

Hmmm.. I'm not too sure. I could be wrong but I think Libra926 may pluck out Orion's occasionally when it's necessary. But like I said I could have got the wrong person!!

I'm not sure about the eyelash surgery, but I remember reading someone else's thread regarding this, I'm sorry i can't think of the persons' name right now, but I think they quoted between 2 and 3 thousand dollars. My 2 haven't got this so far, but my female had cherry eye in both eyes, and I fixed them, the first eye was $250 to fix because I did it at the same time as her spay operation, but a week later , the other eye came out, and it was $850 to fix, because she had to be put under anesthetic again, and IV, and the medications. Had I known the other eye would come out, i would have waited to have all 3 surgeries at once, but I thought I was free and clear, because the two eyes came out 3 months apart from each other. I'm sure someone will be along who can answer your question soon. I too would be squeamish to pluck out the eyelash, and I would be afraid it would hurt them, I have a hard enough time cutting their toe nails, I'm always afraid I'm going to cut the quick, especially with my male, because he has all white nails in the front, and black nails in the back paws, and I cant see the quick, so I just trim where the nail curves over. Good luck,

Ooh. If they have to be anesthesized, like sleep, I don't think it is worth it. Sounds too dangerous. Bad enough I had her spayed!

We went to Richmond Valley Hospital in Staten Island for our last checkup about 4 or so months ago! Brutus had 2-3 eyelashes that we growing in and the vet used a tweezer with a light and plucked them out. I wouldnt do it myself but the vet should be able to do so. They didnt even charge us for it :) Awesome vet Let me know if you need anything :)

Orion has one that causes her problems and we've had it plucked 3 times in the last 15 months. For us...it's just the cost of the office visit.

Hi , I just found an older thread , that mentioned entropian eye surgery, and there were 2 members who have had experience and did surgery for this on their bullies. They are BabyDuke and Jungerland, you could repost that question to them , and ask them about their experiences. I hope this helps.

sorry late to this.. Yes Duke had entropian surgery on both eyes.. but he had eyelashes that caused ulcers that were painful.. we really had no choice.. he had both eyes done and it was a little over 3000 for the surgery.. he has never had a problem since..
LucysMum had her dog done ..

the eye lash surgery is a bit different than entropian surgery .. my only suggestion is you see a vet opthomologist vs a regular vet. someone who specializes in this.. I know when Duke first started with the lashes they put a contact in his eye to relieve the discomfort.. there is a lot they can do..

feel free to PM with any questions.. Good Luck to you !

hmmm...It does not seem to bother her too much, but when she was fixed the vet gave me some cream and mentioned it. I took her to a low cost clinic for the spay and tfor her yearly shots. She saw a fancier vet when I first got her. I would guess if I took hef back there, they could just pluck them out. The cliniv vet didnt want to. She also got fleas from there. What a pain to get rid of. Both cats are giving me dirtylooks still. I think they should have been shaved, heh heh heh.

When it comes to something like this I would see a bulldog vet. If you are close to Staten Isalnd Richmond Valley is amazing!

Sorry to chime in so later here---but feel free to message me if you need any more information. The eyelashes growing inward is called distichiasis. My girl Lucy had a severe case. It got so bad that she was getting abrasions on her eyes and ulcers. We eventually had to turn to surgery. I went to an eye specialist and I think the whole thing cost around $1200. The procedure was called a hotz procedure and they had to cut the top and bottom lid to change the direction of the lids so the lashes stop scratching the lenses.

If it doesn't seem to bother the pup and the eyes are healthy I would wait and see. I have to admit every once in a while I pull out an eyelash on Lucy if it looks like it is bothering her. Lucy is a doll when it comes to stuff like that so she will sit calmly and still. If your pup is squirmish or won't sit still I would let a vet pull out a stray lash.

I think your major concern right now is to watch the pup to see if this is a mild case or not. You don't want to mess around with eyes.

Good luck. Let me know if you need any help.

We are taking larry in to see a doggie eye dr next month. $150 office visit just to get into the door. Our vet said the problem with plucking them over and over is the more you pluck them the thicker they get as they grow back in, causing more issues. Larry's problem, right now, is cosmetic. Eye lashes growing towards the eye makes his eyes water causing staining. But, going to see what he says. Hopefully not the $1500 said above! Yikes!
