Aubie developed this spot on her neck (the front part) not too long ago. I cut away the hair after taking this pic, and it's a little bigger than that under her hair. The skin is dry and peeling on the pair that's been exposed to air and you can see the gunk around the hair where its affected. I've started cleaning it and using a flush for fungal/bacteria. When I gave her a bath tonight with her medicated shampoo, I noticed her neck looked red underneath her fir on the back of her neck. I saw the spot wasn't drying like the rest of her hair, so I looked, cut away some of her hair, and it looked really red and moist. I ran my finger over it to try to part some of the hair and see better, and some of the gunk from that spot (a couple little balls) got on my hand.

She also has two small spots on one leg, one small on a second, and another small on a third. The ones on her legs are all just dry, hairless, and dark pink.

I'm going to send her to the vet with her daddy tomorrow, but I was just curious what I might be up against if anyone has any ideas!

Rocky just flared up with his worst break out to date. he's 41/2 and it started around one. Vets and specialists agree it's allergies. manifests as skin sores. i just switched him to raw food diet in hopes of making my poor guy better. good luck, let me know what they tell you. The more perspectives the better.

I am thinking its allergies because she popped up with chin bumps after we changed her Fromm flavor from salmon to chicken. We ordered and finally got her old food in the mail yesterday and she is off the chicken, so I am wondering if these are leftover effects from a food allergy with that flavor. It just looks gunky so I am worried about infection.

The chin bumps could be a puppy thing, Bacon had chin acne and grew out of it. The spot could be any number of things from staff to mange, the vet's skin scrape will answer that question. Bacon had staff and it eventually went away after two weeks of antibiotics, the topical stuff they tried first didn't work at all, in fact I think it made it worse because it was drying him out so much.

That looks very much like a hot spot to me .... and they are generally in response to an allergy. It's quite likely it is the chicken but so many bullies seem to have a problem with that. I too changed my Fromm Salmon to Fromm Chicken when I had Maggie, and she had an awful reaction to it. Hot spots, yeasty ears and interdigital cysts!!! Unfortunately, it can take approx 30 days for the old food to get out of their system so you may not see any immediate improvment even when you get them back on the old food!!

The vet has ruled... it's demodectic mange! We've got antibiotics and ointment. The vet said it could have popped up after the stress of her heat, which she just finished not too long ago.

Glad you got to the bottom of it and she gets rid of it soon. A spoonful of plain yogurt in the morning will help as will a good supplement to help build her immune systems. We give ours HardyPet Complete every day to help keep them healthy.
