Hi all,

Bongo was Chasing Louie the pug around the house and he came up limping. he's 10 months when they go crazy and chase each other there jumping of the sofa which is where i think it may have happened. its his front left leg i felt up the leg and the joints and shoulder seem all fine some twinging in his face when i touch his paw and toes. is this just a sprain? is there any other test on the legs or visual cues i should be looking for?

Thanks for your help

I would just keep him very very quiet for the rest of the night, and see what he is like in the morning. Just like us, if he has pulled a muscle then tomorrow morning it's going to feel stiff and sore. But as he walks around then if there is any sign of that stiffness it should disappear slightly as he warms the muscle up. If it continues to get worse and worse than I think you need to see a vet.

Basically, follow your instincts.

I'm thinking he pulled it whilst playing and will be ok with rest. :assurred:

Awwwww poor Bongo! We had a similar incident last month with Penelope. She was playing and then suddenly wouldn't even put one foot on the ground. The vet offered up all kinds of scary possibilities and we ended up giving her a anti-inflamitory/painkiller and waiting until the next day to see how she was. She got up the next day running around all full of beans like nothing ever happened. As you mention his paws and toes, have you checked his nails to see if maybe he has a split or cracked nail?

Penny sends Bongo bully kisses. Hope he is well and ready to play soon!

yea just keep him quiet and he will probably be better today or tomorrow. only thing i can add is i give sarah low dose aspirin for pain sometimes so you could try that. i give one in the am and one in the pm if needed. i hope he feels better today. but if after a few days or so he is not better then id see the vet just to be sure.

Bo rolled Bea down the front porch stairs once, trying to get to "the shiny" (sun's reflection on the screen door).
Poor Bea! She was VERY STIFF and sore for a bit but recovered!

I agree with everyone comments and advice above, my Dozer also sprained his paw , when we first got him, and he was limping and favouring his leg for 3 days, I did take him to the vet , and she did X-ray it, but that was only because Dozer fell. He healed nicely and was fine after that. Don't worry

I just took my sons dog to the vet yesterday while he was at work. Now my sons dog is a basset hound and he is like a teenager. He began growing in length so fast that when he woke up in the mornings my son said he would limp on his leg for a few minutes to shake it off and then he was fine. My son decided he needed a longer much larger cage since bodine was growing in length so fast. It worked but a few days ago he began doing the same thing again, yesterday he wouldn't put any pressure on his leg and then he would but he had a limp as though it hurt him. He wasn't showing any pain so I took him in and the vet xrayed it and said she was going to send it off to the orthopedic specialist at State but she thought that it may be a bone disease one of two but is getting specialist opinion. She said both he will grow out of but how weird it is to see your puppy wake up one day and be fine and the next day be limp. Because he is a puppy in our eyes he is still very playful and so sometimes when we think it may be nothing it actually can turn out to be something. Keep an eye on your baby and take notes and video tape it also if necessary. That helped us out a lot when showing the vet because bodine walked in as though nothing was wrong when we first got to the vet office and when examining him again it was as though nothing was wrong until I showed her the video. Have a great day and god bless

I agree with everyone else, how is Bongo doing this morning?

He's doing ok today still limping a little on and off but better he did it on Tuesday if he's not better soon I'm going to take him to the vet.
He wants to play with Louie so it's tough to keep him still when he did it his. Limping was a level 10 now it seems to be about a 3 so it's getting better.

So happy Bongo is doing better. Hopefully he just got a little rowdy playing with Louie. Is such a positive sign that he is so much better within a couple of days. Yay!

How long u guy's think it will take to heal if its just a sprain? I know humans week to 10 days I would think similar cause he's not completely immobile still plays with Louie so will probably take longer what do you guys think?
