Unhappy Matilda is 4 mo old now, and I'm terrified of having her spayed?!

Matilda is due to be fixed soon, and I know my vet is an amazing EB specialist, but blah blah blah, I don't want my baby drugged and cut open!

    Freaking out, over here!

I am especially worried about the drugging part. It just seems so dangerous to me to anesthetize a bully - as they already can't breath as is!

Advice/anything to make me feel better? Dr. Kraemer of Grand Pet Care in Santa Ana, CA is the vet doing it. Does anyone else use him? He is wonderful.

I know iso......(the full name is eluding me) is the gas that is preferred for use on bullies. But since your vet is a bully vet he should be familiar with iso.........

As for being terrified of your baby going under, we all are or have been there! When the day comes post here and you'll get lots of support and special for Matilda.

Oh sweetie, it will be okay. Just make sure as Lari said that the only use iso (gas). When do you plan on having her spayed?

I just scheduled it today. I'm going out of town with her for Thanksgiving and don't want her suffering around all the commotion, so it is scheduled for Nov. 27th!!!!

I'm just so worried about the whole process and the drugging and the recovery!

Hi, if I can make you feel any better I just got my boy Nelson castrated at our vets (2 days ago), he had gas. Obviously he couldn't get out of the vets quick enough when we picked him up and when we got him home he was sleepy (to be expected) but he did eat and drink. Well when I came down the next morning it was back to the usual Nelson that we know, he was obviously banging into everything trying to get used to his E collar but aside from that it was business as usual. I, like you was so worried dropping him off, thinking the worse but the vets know what they are doing and should take special care and conduct careful monitoring of bullies. My vet was pleased with everything and so am I, try not to worry it will all be fine

I was nervous too but my Maggie did fine,I'm sure everything will be ok. I scheduled hers so that we would be home with her the first few days , the hardest part was keepin her from running around afterward!

I was a wreck when Tonka got neutered too. I cried in the car on the way home after dropping him off haha. I'm such a baby! It went well but he was very tired and kept making little whining noises which terrified me and made me feel awful for him. I had to call my vet back to tell him Tonka was lethargic and whining and he gave me some pain medication to give him which helped him a lot. Within a day or so he was back to normal. Tonka also got a little bubble/scabbing I guess you could say where the incision was which was just the knot pushing up where the stitches were. I kept it lubricated with neosporin since the dry scab seemed to make him itchy there. Just thought I would let you know these things in case any of the happened to you so that you would know it was normal and no big deal.

I was terrified too with the thought of Emma getting spayed. And the same reason, her little tummy being cut open - I couldn't stand the thought of that. When Wilson and Jack were neutered earlier this year I wasn't bothered at all for them. Sure I worried but nothing like I did with Emma. Emma did GREAT and was hoping around literally that night when I picked her up. Shy of her sutures, you'd never known she had been spayed. About 5 days later though she started bleeding like she was in heat again. I contacted her doc (a wonderful bully vet here) and he told me that it's just he residual of her healing inside and that was that. She was hunky dory!

It is totally normal to feel this way... I was a wreck the day my boy and girl went in. I was out of my mind over the anesthetic but my vet reassured me that they monitor bullies extra carefully. I picked them both up the same day after work and they were absolutely fine - just really sleepy. My male was perfectly fine the next day, and my little girl was great. I had a complication with her about a week later, when I (bad mom) wasn't watching and she jumped off the couch. This caused her little incision to break a little and this allowed an infection to start... nothing tore inside, just a surface infection along her incision and anitbiotics cleared her right up.
The surgery itself was fine - and I know it is easy for us all to tell you so, believe me I understand that you will be so nervous the day of. But you are doing her a favor by doing this, she will never have to deal with heats and all that, and I am sure all will be well. We are all here for you! hugs!
