Has your vet done an x-ray to make sure she does not have hip dysplasia? They shouldn't pop all the time.

Wilson left hip pops and has ever since he was a puppy (he'll be 2 in Jan). It doesn't do it too much now but when he was little it seemed to (but I think I was overly concerned too - a worry wort). I haven't ever had an xray done but his vet (and he's a good one) said that he's just fine. When he does have leg issues, strains from running, pulled groin, etc., it does always seem to be that side. I keep a watch on him and if he favors any leg it's that one. I do mention to my hubby that I have a gut feeling that as he gets older he'll have some problems with it....but that's just my gut feeling, not a medical opinion.

all of Hermans joints pop i feel them when I grab him and he runs away from me. but i dont hear them popping when he walks. when i asked his vet she said he's still growing and didnt seem too concerned about it. i read somewhere (maybe here) to not give the joint supplements while they are still young and growing so i dont know. but i am keeping my eye on them (he's 7 months).

That would kind of worry me. Could it have to do with the fact that all of the growth plates are not set? If your dog were older I would say definitely try some cosequine but I am not sure if that is actually something that should be given now. Can you ask the breeder if they had any instances of HD in their lines? Or even if it is something they have had their lines tested for.

Either way, Raven and I are sending puppy prayers that it doesn't turn out to be anything bad. Good luck.

Hi there. Do not panic but I would get to a orthopedic surgeon for an x-ray as soon as you can. The popping sound could be a sign of hip dysplasia, which is much more treatable, if caught early. I would not suggest going to a regular vet first because you will just be throwing your money away. If you go to the orthopedic specialist, who has a much more knowledge and resources pertaining to hip issues, they will be able to give you an idea of what is going on. My puppy Truman had severe hip dysplasia and his hip eventually popped right out of socket. Prior to that, he showed little discomfort and remember, bullies are FAMOUS for hiding their injuries and pain. Because we caught it early (and arthritis had not set in) we had a few treatment options.

So my recommendation is to by-pass the vet and go right to the orthopedic specialist with your concerns and see what they say. If you have any more specific questions, I'm happy to answer!
