Help Needed! Puppy UTI?

My poor Matilda was pottying very frequently on Sunday, and yesterday I took her in for the UTI screening. I opted for the full culture (just to be safe), but the results won't be at my vet until tomorrow. What can I do to keep her comfortable in the mean time?

She doesn't seem to be in any pain, just a little more restless than usual. She also keeps peeing her crate - I launder all her bedding and she pees in it an hour later. I decided to leave bedding in (as opposed to just the pan) because I don't want her to get soaked in pee if she has another accident. She is very unhappy with it, but I don't know what else to do - no matter what I put in there, she doesn't tell me when she has to pee, and gets it everywhere. She's also peeing all over the house, even though I take her outside every 30 minutes.

I have been giving her lots of love and treats and we've had plenty of playtime to distract her (she is playing and acting completely normally), but is there anything I can do to make her more comfortable until her vet calls?

Are UTIs very common in bully pups? I've never had a dog (and I grew up with lots of them!) that had one before.

Im not sure if anything will help other than the meds they will give you but just wanted to say I hope she gets feeling better soon!

UTi's in my experience can happen in any breed, but some bullys might have trouble keeping themselves as clean as they need. They've just got a little extra pudge!

My Vet(s) discovered anotomical problems with my girl that made infections more common. After a specialist corrected those problems surgically, AND after I started a nightly grooming routine, she stopped ALL accidents etc. So even if you clear up one thing --and I hope it's just a random thing-- you may want to keep a close eye on any returning "dribbles" Could be behavioral (marking, thunder...who knows) or she needs some help medically. Glad you opted for the culture! Expensive, but you"ll get answers. Listen as carefully as possible to the results.mKeep plenty of water on hand...and if you don't already, add some water to the food... I"ll check back here and hope for good news!

Thank you both! The urine screening came in positive for infection today. Still waiting on the full culture test to see what kind. Matilda thankfully seems fine other than the constant pottying. And thank you SunDog for the advice, I'll definitely need to pay attention to this in the future. What do you do in your nightly grooming routine? If it's helped prevent more, I'll gladly do it!

our grooming routine is pretty simple: I have a basket of dollar store wash clothes, and during the evening news when we're settling in, I clean her belly, bum and lady parts with the wash cloth and witch hazel (you can find it next to the rubbing alcohol at CVS or Rite Aid). She looooves this because I started it as a puppy. When she see's the basket she just rolls on her back. Once she's happy and dry I sneak in with another cloth and get her face and outside her ears. Mid-week the wash clothes get tossed into a hot bleach-ee wash and we start over.

IMPORTANT: this has kept her infection-free on top of surgery to correct a stricture and inverted, ahem, vay-jj . If she hadn't had the surgery, I know grooming alone would not be enough. Also, anti-biotics are rough. Anything you can do to keep her urinary tract infection-free is worth it! Good luck.

Thank you guys! SunDog, I will try the witch hazel! I've been using baby wipes to clean her lady bits daily.

The culture came in positive for E. Coli. The vet said it was nothing she was exposed to, it just happens from within their body and they don't know why? She started antibiotics last night and is PERFECT today! Yay! But I am worried about whether this will turn into a constant problem...

Just thought I would throw this suggestion out there...... To keep skin infections down and to prevent UTI's I pour a teaspoon of Apple Cider Vinegar in my bullies water bowls every time I refresh their water. This method also keeps the fleas at bay too!
