Bully Massive Ear Infection - Dr. Suggested TECA may be necessary....

I took Stanley to the vet last week and he was diagnosed with his first ear infection. It happens to be pretty bad and his ear is almost swollen shut, the other ear is perfectly fine. Meds have done nothing for him and what scared me and why I joined this forum is that the Dr. suggested that a TECA may be necessary. Stanley is our 3rd bulldog so we aren't surprised by the cost and the high maintenance of the breed but a total ear canal ablation???? this surgery would remove his ear canal, seems pretty extreme to me for a 1st infection but they obviously know more than I do. They are a bulldog specialty vet. I would appreciate any input or suggestions that the group has for me for alternative treatment.

Thank you in advance!

Amy

I think I would definitely get a second opinion. The surgery is risky. Please keep us posted.

I too would get a second opinion and was there X-rays done or biopsy to make sure there is no abcess that is closing it off?

Before you took him to the vets, did he had a fever? What where his symptoms? How is he acting now?? Im just wondering. I would get a second opinion also.

No fever, acting like himself, playful and active. Brought him in because his ear was bothering him and it was obviously infected.
