I have a bully who was recently given to me and he has some anal gland issues. He was on cephalexin and i took him to get an anal express and medicated flush , injected antibiotics and they shaved his butt. Even with all this the anal gland is still oozing. (caused by a ruptured abcess) Does anyone have any tips? The vet told me warm compresses and to keep it cleaned , which I have but its not getting better, he is also on prednisone now and its not red or irritated anymore just oozing. thanks and Mr. Beefy will appreciate any help. he would like to one day be able to sleep in the bed.:(

Ouch, tough problem. It sounds like the abscess might just have to drain to get better. Prednisone reduces inflammation, so it sounds like it's working but in reducing the inflammation, it might be causing the drainage.

If the drainage from the abscess doesn't slow or stop, I would call the vet on Tuesday and see what he or she has to say.

Good luck!

Oh my your poor baby! If things don't improve perhaps try a second opinion from another vet. See if there is a specialist in that field as well. I feel so bad for both of you, what a tough thing to go through. Sorry I have no suggestions, please keep us posted.
