for 'local' allergies - I.E. Trees, Grass, Weeds, etc - I have read that LOCAL HONEY helps you build up a tolerance to those allergies. It has to be locally obtained (check farm stands etc, just make sure its from a local bee keeper, cause Honey shipped from Texas, will only have the stuff in there to help with Texas grasses, weeds, trees, flowers etc. (sorry all you Texans, just using you as an example.)

bubbaisapig we started the allergy shots recently. I know they work really well for about 65% of dogs and then kind of help for another 15%. That's what our vet told us so I am hoping time will tell and we will see some relief for him. I'll keep you all posted but we just started! Tonka is allergic to dust mites and plain old dust and the dust created from decomposing insects and the dust that's in food from packaging it! I feel ya on what a pain that is...I HATE dusting...i'm allergic to it myself so I sneeze when I clean...yuck! Did your test results come from the hair test? We have done the blood test and the skin test so far.

Did both tests show the same results? Curious!

Our blood test didn't show much in the way of results. We had it done when Tonka was about 8 months or so and all the numbers were very low showing that not much of anything was significant. Molds and dust were higher than other numbers though so the vet told us those were most significant. He still told us Tonka was not a candidate for allergy shots based on the minimal results. Then we went to a specialist and had the skin test done recently. The skin test was for environmental items only but grass molds, house molds, dust/dust mites etc. all showed up on the skin test too so that confirmed it for us. :) The specialist said he is definitely an "allergy dog" though because he tested allergic to 15 of the items on the test whereas most dogs he tests are somewhere in the 8-10 range.
