Default Champ's skin issues, please help needed!

Hi guys, my friend Donna @donnaloo has a 1 yr old bulldog Champ.. He has what look to me like pretty severe allergies. I encouraged her to join the site and she did but she is still getting used to it, so I wanted to create a thread for her and tag her. She feeds champ TOTW bison and venison formula.. which does have chicken meal and sweet potato in it.. I told her many bulldogs are sensitive/allergic to that. She took Champ to a new vet today and they are putting him on steroids, antibiotics and running an allergy panel.. I was thinking maybe some of you bulldog experts can offer her a little more advice.. She really sounds worried about Champ and it is breaking her heart to see him itch like he does..

Please my friends, any support or experiences with similar situations will give Donna the hope she needs that Champ can get better

Oh the poor pup that looks so sore, defiantly infected ,once the antibiotics have done their job and hopefully allergy test shows what he'd allergic to then your friend will be on the right track, tho not all allergies are food related,If he were mine I would be creaming with nappy rash cream unless he's on a topical steroid for the rash, personally I would raw feed to make sure I knew what was going into him ,could be a massive yeast infection also that's started in the folds and he's just scratched his face so bad that now its secondary, there are many things on the market for his immune system ,when he's finished the antibiotics I would give acidophilus for 2 weeks to replace the flora in his gut also,I hope your friend can get a handle on this ,poor little pup ,karen

Thank you @karenben, I did recommend desitin as well, as I use it on Aldo and has worked great for him..

Awe that poor baby. Does he have rash any where else ? Between toes or in arm pits ? Could be yeast making him itch . I would keep him out of the sun for the time being and wash the irritated areas with an antibacterial soap and rinse and dry well before putting the Desatine on

That looks like a hot spot, completely inflamed. Def. start with antihistamine asap, and if she can shave the area so it dries out. Poor sweet baby. Clean with antibacterial soap as @Sherry suggested but instead of Diaper rash ointment I would use cortizone cream (but not too close to the eyes). Does Champ rub his face on the couch or furniture? This is kinda how my sarah was, she rubbed her face on the couch until she bled. Poor sweet Champ xx

you have gotten some great advice on what to put on it but id be looking at why also. if that were my dog i would put it on a bland diet like hamburger and rice or a limited ingredient canned food till the allergy panel came back. totw has so many ingredients in it that could be bothering the dog i would not feed one more bite of it till i knew it was ok. also would check bowls and such make sure there is no plastic.. i would do the wash as sherry said and i would probably be putting and anti fungal cream plus hydrocortisone on a bit of his face and if it helped i would use it all over. i would be giving this dog an antihistamine also if the steroid does not resolve the itching but it should. oh my keep us updated.

I think the advice above is good - poor thing - Truman has been in a similar condition where he scratched so much it bled. He was on an antibiotic to get rid of the infection that was on his skin and then an antihistamine -and now a steroid, to help him get better. He looks a million times better already but time will tell what happens after the steroid wears off.

You might want to try a limited ingredient diet for Champ also. I struggled mightily with ear infections on Linus and skin itchiness on Truman and they did the best on NVI LID Lamb formula. Then I made a switch...and everything went to h#)$@# - so something to consider!

Poor boy, great advise above, and I would stop his food and go with a bland diet as cowsmom has suggested until you find out what he is allergic to.
