BruceP No she hasn't always been a slow eater. She used to really love to eat and it has just tapered off in the last month or less that she has eaten a bite or two then came back for the rest at bedtime. I'm sure I could get her to gain the weight back but she is getting a little older and at the same time I don't want her to be too big and put stress on her joints. In theory the vet will know what she should weigh, I will ask him tomorrow for sure! Thanks for the replies everybody

From the standing shot I would say she looks fine as far as her weight is concerned. She has a nice tapered waist and that's what you want. Not too much weight for those poor hip and knee joints to have to hold up. I hope your vet visit goes ok tomorrow and that they have some answers for you for her eyes.

I think Bre is perfect! She is an older bully and older folks have a decrease in appetite and can still go on living for quite some time! I hope it's just life changes for her! I love her MamaAndi I want to cuddle with bre. She reminds me of a sweet childhood teddybear!

It's not so much how she looks today if she lost 9 pounds in one month and won't eat is a problem. Have you taken a stool sample into the vet? and what has the blood work showed? How is her white count?

Silly me, just curious.

Pictures are deceiving sometimes. In the very last shot, she looks great. But in the others, she looks thin to me.

I have a 17 year old cat here (my daughter's kitty that she's grown up with) that looks downright anorexic some days and just fine on others. Age and gravity are not our friends. When pets age, they do look different! Since you are going to the vet, you'll get some sound advice from a professional, but otherwise, I'd say if she's eating, peeing, pooping within a "normal" range, don't worry. (I know that's not easy sometimes....I'm a worry wart too when it comes to my dogs...)

JeannieCO I guess the glaucoma (if that's what this actually is) isn't painful but they can feel a buildup of pressure from the eye...so while it might not be painful I'm sure it isn't comfortable. I think that's why she isn't as happy and carefree as she normally is...I'm sure that loosing some vision is a scary thing for a dog, makes their world a totally different place. That's why I bought her the big pillow bed that she was laying on in the pics. It's large and has a very distinct pattern, that way she can easily locate her bed even if she can't see as well.
acarabias thank you for your encouraging words, I am thinking we are just going through a life change too, but luckily there are things we can do to help make it easier for her :)
Sherry the 9lb loss has occured over time (January was when she weighed in at 50lbs) not in a month. I'd freak out if she lost 9lbs in a month! LOL

Thanks again everybody for reading this thread and weighing in with your advice/experience. It's really nice to have people here who care so much for bullies that they are willing to share information!

I was just reading more and I thought I should clarify...Glaucoma can cause pain as it progresses and if left untreated. The pain is caused from the buildup of pressure....at this point for Bre there is minimal pressure buildup (they checked last week at her initial visit) so while it is uncomfortable it shouldn't be painful right now.

I still have lots to learn about this! I just wanted to point that out in case anyone is learning along with me!

Update from vet followup:

Okay we just got back from her followup appointment. I asked about her weight. He said she is perfect at the weight for her age. He said the 9lbs lost was just the fluff coming off. He also said to try hard to keep her at this weight.
As far as her eye, he wants her to see a specialist for it. So he gave us a referral and I called them. Turns out they are quite busy and the earliest I can get her in is next Tuesday afternoon. So now we wait...

On the way home we picked up some Innova Puppy (she eats Innova Senior) to mix in with her other food to see if it appeals to her more. The person at the shop mentioned Innova Senior Plus for the next time we buy a big bag of the Senior food. She said it has more fat and protein than the normal senior food.

Glad the weight loss isn't a concern now. Is her eye looking any better?

LariP it looks the same to me honestly. The blue cloudy area hasn't spread so that's good. The vet did say her pupils are different sizes though and he wants to find out what is causing that. That's why he is sending us to a specialist.
