Samson had surgery last week Friday to repair a bad corneal ulcer on his left eye. He was doing really well up until now, I tried cleaning the area tonight/put drops in and he cried when I tried touching the area. Every time I even get remotely near the area he jerks away. So I want to think he's having this problem because i unintentionally forgot his pain pill this morning. Anyone else have complications after eye surgery? Im terrified to see what the inside of his eye looks like - could there be debris on his eye bothering him? ...and yes I gave him a pain pill tonight after slapping myself for forgetting this morning.

I would have the vet check that out. I don't think that would be from missing the pain meds but could be! I would have it checked to be safe ESP bc it's his eye! Others will be by with more advice! Hope everything works out and he gets better soon

He seems better this morning - he let me clean the area and put drops in like normal. I do notice that he has a lot of "sleep" (gunky stuff) covering the inside eye area. His other eye has also been gunky but getting it out hasn't been a problem, because I'm not afraid to injure it!

That's sounds better, at least he'll let you keep it clean, maybe the cry was from missing pain med. or perhaps you just got him at a sensitive area.

Mod85 so sorry he had a bad night.. My first thought was def because you forgot the pain meds.. Do you know how many stiches he had? just be super gentle and careful giving the eye meds.. I made a game out of it.. I would line treats up (kibble ) on the botton step then if you can picture once Duke got to the step I would kind of corner him ( as I would talk to him in a very high pitch voice) then I would wrap my arm around him while talking to him bend his head back and get the drops in that way. Our surgeon told us to try to make the experience pleasant?? hope this helps a little.. I totally understand.. the 4-5 weeks after Duke's surgery were over the top stressful!!:cursing: But I promise it does get better. Also is he still wearing the cone.. you want to be certain he is not scratching or touching the eye in any way..

[SUB]Thanks guys. I called the eye specialist and they are going to see him Saturday morning. I described the eye and she said that it sounds like he's getting a build up of mucous in his eye because he can't blink as much. She said he may get it out before tomorrow but by no means should I touch it. Makes me feel better just getting the doctor to see him! :)[/SUB]

BabyDuke - it looks like he has 3 or 4 stitches (maybe?), his eye closes about 1/2 way or so he can still open it, just not well. He's wearing the cone when I put drop in and the inflatable collar all others times (including at night in his kennel). He's not able to mess with his eye with the inflatable collar on (plus he sleeps a lot better) and the only reason I'm putting the cone on when I put drops in is because I'm able to control him a little more. You're right it's incredibly stressful! Everyday something new!! AGHHHHHHH!

not that this will make you feel more comfortable but maybe it will.. Duke had over 100 stiches in both eyes :( it was a nitemare.. and I totally agree about not being able to blink.. makes sense.. To this day we give Duke drops for dry eye and if I forget he gets that mucus build up right away .. hang in there.. brighter days are ahead!

100 stitches!?!?! OMG, maybe Samson has more than three!!! LOL. Samson went to the vet on Saturday, and OF COURSE when I woke up Saturday morning the debris on his cornea was on the outside of his eye, so it looked MUCH better! Anyways, the vet said that his eye is healing exactly as it should be and it looks as though we're on track to get the stitches out on Thursday!
