Don't know if I should be freakin out but my fiancé has been giving Guinness Benadryl to help with his really bad allergies but I looked closely tonight and realized it has acetomeniphean (or however u spell it) in it!! It's an over the counter wal mart allergy med. he has been gettin two pills and this contains 650mg in them. How worries should I be?? I won't be giving him these anymore

I'll look it up... not sure. But, you can induce vomiting by giving him 2 teaspoons of hydrogen peroxide per 10 lbs.

I looked it up and I says that a dog would have to ingest 6 pills (500mg apiece) before toxicity, Guinness only had 650mg total, but I'm not 100% sure and I'm a little scared for my buddy

650mg total not per pill

I would induce vomiting... i found an article on a vet site saying it should not be given to dogs and is toxic to cats

Yeah... I read the same, but I'd be safe and induce the vomit with the peroxide.

I just did some research as well and I agree with 2BullyMama to induce vomitting or even take a trip to the vet or animal hospital

I called emergency vet and they told me to call animal poisen control so I am on the phone with them now. He is running around fine and appears ok but I am just worried. It's $65 per call, dang this is expensive

Wow that is expensive! I'm assuming he'll be fine because you said "she has been giving" him them so obviously he didn't have a horrible reaction before so I wouldn't think he would now. Of course you can't do it anymore, just so you know when you go get more walmart does sell just the plain generic benedryl. I have a bottle in my hand, diphenhydramine should be the ONLY active ingredient. I'm sure you already know the amount to give but this bottle has 25 mg capsules, they get 10 mg per 10 lbs, Samson is 50-55 lbs so I give him 2. Keep us updated!

Sorry can't help you out but say 650mg is ok for adults but not sure about dogs. Tylenol is metaboleized in liver and can easily be toxic because of this. I am unsure if doga area ble to metabolize it. I would pm desertskybulldogs

Sure hope he's ok. Will be waiting for an update. I'd be taking my guy into the vet, but I'm overly cautious. Keeping fingers crossed.

I would also suggest peroxide, but how long has it been since giving it to him? How many times? I would be thinking sub q fluids to help flush him out quickly. No it is not a lethal dose but it would not hurt to be overly cautious. What did the poison control say?
