You are not losing her, we are all going to help you fight for her life. I would suggest seeing a specialist Vet. Are there ones close to you?

A kidney specialist or a bulldog specialist?

The list of recommended vets at the top of the page shows that the only vet in NJ is in Hainsport. That's about 2 hours from me. I contacted the Bulldog Club of America and they have 4 others in NJ. One of them is only about 20 minutes from here. I plan on taking her to the vet in the morning. Let them ultrasound her abdomen to see what state her kidneys are actually in. This will tell us if it's congenital or not. It should also tell us how much time they expect her to have. They will run a more complete blood panel to get exact levels of "something" (my head was swimming by this point in the conversation, I didn't write that part down). They will also give her IV fluids for a day or 2 to flush out her system. That plus some medication might give her a little more time. My heart was broken by that point. I couldn't understand anything else that she said. When I go there in person tomorrow morning I will get more answers. This was such an incredibly hard conversation to have by telephone.

Hit submit too soon :(

I'm hoping to take the results of all of these tests to another doctor for a second opinion. There's not much sense in running them all twice. Unless there's a reason that I'm not able to think of?

Twice, I would say Kidney specialist. We have a specialty group here in town. It consists of an Internal Medicine Vet, Oncologist, Cardiologist and Dermatologist...You might have the same kind of group there.

I'm in Essex County. Belleville to be exact.

There is a very good Animal Hospital in Titon Falls they have specialist there... just in case you are wanting to go that route after tomorrow's test.

I need to thank all of you SO much for your help and support in all of this. I honestly think I would have lost my mind by now without it.

I don't know much about protein and phosphorus levels of raw too, but will check the yahoo archives for you.

I'm so sorry about the results, but going to keep hoping that the second opinion will be a better one. I'll see if there's anyone in the other groups that I belong to have any experience with this and will let you know. I know you're already giving Abby extra hugs, please give her one more for us.

Twice - After doing a quick search on the Yahoo group, there is some discussion on kidney failure. Didn't read a whole lot of it, but it looks like a good starting point if you want to go the raw route. There's a few who've experienced it with their dogs. If you want to go that way and scared of bones, I'd grind everything, even though it's not really the 'recommended' way for whole prey feeding. Doing what your heart and guts tell you is always what I always follow.

Here's the Yahoo group site. It's free to sign up. http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/rawfeeding/

I'm not sure raw is totally the way to go yet. I've only just started researching this tonight. I only found out about all of this at 3:30 today. I was sent a website that lists low protein commercial foods, I'm trying to figure out phosphorous levels. All of this is making my head spin. I need to talk to her regular vet tomorrow. I need to take her test results for a second opinion. I'd like to take her to see that specialist that @2BullyMama mentioned. I'd like to take her to see a holistic vet too. I need to read all of these websites. I'd like to do all of these things! Today on the phone the vet made it sound like I won't have the time :(

I just need a little time! :begging:

edit... I sent a request to join that yahoo group you suggested. I've sent requests to join ALL of the groups that have been suggested to me tonight. I kind of fibbed a little in the comment box tho. I said that my dog was diagnosed with weak kidneys. I didn't say that I've been told she is in full on kidney failure. I hope I will be forgiven if found out.
