My heart is aching for you and Abby. We can only hope that the ultrasound and more information will give you more of a glimmer of hope. My Bella was on her deathbed, the vet was willing to put her down, but I told her do what you need to and we got our prayers answered. I hope that your prayers will be answered too. Please know we are all here for you.

The vet said that she can't be sure what the cause is until more testing is done. It could be congenital. It could be some type of poisoning (she must've asked me 3 or 4 times if I'd ever given Abby raisins or grapes). It could also be an infection that went untreated for too long. We won't know for sure until we see the state of the kidneys. She was sick when we got her but we all just figured it was the change of environment. I don't know what these people did to her before I had her.

I'm home now. I got the news while I was still at work and I walked out. It was a long drive home. I cried, I yelled, I screamed. Now I'm mad.

I walked in the door and as usual she ran to me and started complaining. She is so full of life! She doesn't ACT sick at all and I'm not going to treat her like she is! Not until I absolutely have to. We are going to have that ultrasound tomorrow and the vet can run whatever tests she needs to. As long as Abby wants to live, damnit I am going to help her!

I need help. I need a second opinion. I need holistic vet. Her kidneys can't handle protein so I am going to google my butt off until I find low protein foods for her. Not that Science Diet stuff either. That's a last resort, I've noticed that she throws up regular dog food. The only stuff that seems to stay in her stomach are the grain free foods, SD isn't grain free. I need a GOOD homemade low protein diet. I need vitamins, I need egg shells! (I read that ground up egg shells help bind the phosphorus and help it pass through the system better) I don't know what else but I am going to find out!

I haven't told my son and I'm not going to until we know EXACTLY what we're dealing with. Maybe I'm in denial but I am not ready to give up on this girl yet.

Please keep those prayers coming. I have a feeling we are going to need them

I'm so sorry that you are going through this ... but you're a fighter and so is Abby. Don't stop fighting ... take each day as it comes and see what happens.

It doesn't seem as if Abby is in any pain so that is on her side .... I will be keeping you in my prayers!!!

OK so I've learned that it's not just the protein that causes the trouble. It's the phosphorous and the salt. So no grain, low protein, low phosphorous and low sodium. Everything I've spent the past 2 hours reading suggests raw. Boneless raw meat, raw vegetables. Apparently raw is easier to digest? I don't get it but I'm still reading. And I think found out WHY she throws up food with grain in it and not grain free. I found this..

The reason a kidney diet should contain no grain foods is because grain foods in general are biologically inappropriate for dogs. They are high in starch - the killer carbohydrate - are high in phosphorus and their proteins are poorly digested and of low quality.
I am so afraid to feed her raw food. What if I screw it up and do more damage than good? I'm afraid to even put her down! I also learned that she loves to be read to Either that or she just likes hearing about food.

I will look into foods. My Bella can have high Protien, she can't have certain levels of fat and fiber, so I know those by heart. We will all help you through this.

@Twice, I just found this article and list. From what I understand if the kidneys are normal, the higher protein is okay. However since Abby's are not normal at the moment, I am sure a lower protein and Phosphorus would be better. I would click on each food and evaluate the best analysis.

Thanks! I'm reading that page now. I just dont understand it. She wiggled out of my arms and is now running around with that stupid football from the Petco guy in her mouth. How can she be sick!! How can she be dying! I can't lose her. Not yet. Not when we just got her!
