I see he's at the Ariz. Vet. Specialists. That place is great! I had a Sheepdog that, unfortunently, had to be seen by the oncoligist there some years back. He should be in very good hands. He certainly looks happy to be there!
Another quick update on Truman. The doctor called during the surgery and said she thought she could save the bad hip by placing it back in socket (which didn't appear as bad as on the x ray), suturing it back in there, and hoping the JPS allows the hip socket to grow in better. So she's going to place the sutures and see how it looks and hopefully we can avoid the FHO surgery completely! I asked to save the hip if she thinks it is at all possible so the surgery continues and I will keep updating! ALL THE GOOD THOUGHTS & PRAYER MUST BE WORKING! THANK YOU!
Oh well that is a bit of good news anyhow! He will pull thru just fine, how could he not with that kind of attention he is getting right?!?! LOVE the pic too by the way!!
I hope everything went well. I know you are relieve a little to know it wasn't as bad as what was originally thought. I am thinking of him during his recovery. I know you will be lovin on him all night.
Truman is officially out of surgery and waking up.
The good news is that he only needed two out of the three surgeries - the two less invasive ones too! So he got neutered today and also had the JPS surgery, which destroys the growth plate in the bottom of the pubic bone on growing dogs to encourage the top of the pubic bone to continue to grow around the femur and form better joints. It has a 90% success rate in dogs 16 weeks or younger, but every dog grows different, so we have our fingers crossed.
He did not need the big surgery - the FHO or femoral head ostectomy, which basically removes the ball of the femur bone to create a false hip joint. The surgeon found that the bad hip was not as bad as she thought from the x rays so she stitched the partially dislocated hip back into place and now we wait for him to grown and, hopefully, the hips to get better. They will know for sure how good the JPS worked by 7 months but most likely sooner.
Truman is still at the surgeon's office. He is going to stay overnight since his surgery was later in the day so he can be monitored but he should be good to go tomorrow morning. I am told his spirits are good and he can't wait to see his momma!
Thanks again for all your thoughts and prayers. I will continue to update as new details roll in!
