Red Cheeks, Swollen Eyes and Sore Feet

We have been on an adventure with our recent adopted rescue Howard. When we got him he had a deep tail pocket that was constantly infected. After trying to keep up with keeping it clean, we finally had his tail removed. Now we are "chasing our tails" trying to get his allergies under control. We feed him Natural Balance Sweet Potato and Fish, which has made a big different in his stool.

Howard is about 5 years old and sleeps a lot. His eyes are a constant bother and his feet are very sensitive. Our vet has prescribed eye drops for tear production but his eyes are constantly puffy and his cheeks are red. Tried Benadryl with no luck.

Any suggestions?

Do you have carpet or hardwood/tile floors? A lot of dust etc can be in those carpets....sometimes it's just the simplest things that can fix somethings. Try shampooing carpets....bertie is allergic to the carpet fresh, so I can't use that on my carpets....her feet get red and her eyes get really wattery.

Have you tried another food....?
Before taking him the the vet again for possibly more medication, try switching foods.
Try something without Fish and without Potato...
I know potoatoes cause alot of allergies with many bullies on this forum (mine for one)..

Good Luck... Finding the right food is a struggle and sometimes you just want to throw in the towel . But once you do find that right food, it's gonna feel like a weight off your shoulders and seeing your adopted bully in good health is gonna make YOU FEEL GREAT!

I take it he didn't have the described issues when you had him at the vet???? Souonds like allergies of some sort to me. May be food. Your vet can do an allergy test to find out what he is allergic too but lots and lots of bully people have improved their bullies health by finding a food that works for them. All bullys are different so what works for one may not work for yours. The food rating chart here on EBN is a good place to start. The food you mentioned is a good food but may not be compatible with your bully. Heck, he could be allergic to grass. At this point we are guessing but food is where I would start.

I feed Mocha Natural Balace LID Sweet Potato and fish also. I have had nothing but great results with this brand. Mocha looks great and zero allergies! I switch flavors for variety once in a while. But maybe [MENTION=4111]IBRhoward[/MENTION] your bully is allergic to potatos. It was on a thread here about a day ago.

Sounds that he is allergic and beeing a raw feeder I recommend raw food. Only then you really know what is in his food.

Agreed.... allergy test is where you want to start... full blood allergy screening will give you a list of what to avoid. My girl is highly allergic to chicken and very sensitive to potato
