the vet i saw was unsure but the top vet i feel more comfortable talking to and taking advice from was away! just my luck. it's tomorrow that we'll be recieveing a call after he's looked at the xrays so fingers crossed it wont be anything too serious! she's been on anti-inflammatories since saturday afternoon but there's still no improvement atall so that worries me quite a bit! i've been carrying her everywhere. i try to keep her out the crate as much as possible so she's just been resting on the sofa or bed, and i carry her out when she needs the toilet. it's just such a shame because she's quite an active bully and loves playing with our staffy, and wondering round the house being nosey and checking her family are okay! i shall let you all know on the news we hear tomrorow and whether she needs surgery or not. fingers crossed she won't

Update on Bella! :D
Vet called today and said that nothing serious can be seen on the xrays, so her injury appears to be ligament or other soft tissue damage, possibly just a really bad pulled muscle. There's no nerve damage and it appears there's been a bit of improvement over night! She's using her leg a bit more and is limping as oppossed to just holding it up and walking on three legs. She has her anti-inflammitries and painkillers for another three days and depending on her recovery we'll have to call up for more tablets on Friday. She has to be caged for another week :( and they're going to send her xrays off to a specialist to be 100% sure!
Does anyone have any information on the age at which growth plates fuse? Because she's an 11 month old pup the initial idea was that she'd damaged her growth plates but apparently the xrays show that they're already fused together. The vet asked if we've had her since she was a tiny puppy because she reckons she might be a bit older. We've had her since she was 5 months, but have never questioned anything we've been told because she came from an amazing breeder in Southampton who breeds brilliant pedigree Bulldogs, Dogue De Bordeaux and Shih Tzu's. Her dad is a champion and her grandad is known around the world! Maybe she's just a quick developer, who knows! But any advice on this would be great :)

WOW... That is a far cry from "if she doesn't have surgery immediately she'll be ruined for life".... think you need to just SMACK that rep tech or whoever that was that scared you so badly. Im glad to hear it isn't all that it was made out to be. :)

I know it's ridiculous! After all this worry is over and her leg is completely better I'll probably switch vets. It's just with the other pets we've had registered there we've never really had any serious problems and it's not until serious problems arise that you started depending on them and taking their advice so much - Truely realising how good/bad they are.

So happy to her in is nothing serious, and she has a speedy recovery. What I have read on growth plates is it depends on the dog. Most dogs that weight between 25 to 90 lbs. it can take up to 14 months for some of the plates to harden. Some may harden at 4 months. Your vet can do an x-ray to see which plates have or have not hardened.

Great news! What a relief. Be sure to keep that little one quiet/caged/leashed. Rest will be the best thing for that leg. From my experience--if they don't rest and let the injury heal it will keep creeping up over and over again. (like a bad rash)

Let us know if the diagnosis changes. Relax and enjoy the good news!

Terrific News! I am so happy that your worries have been limited with a soft tissue diagnosis.

As far as the fused plates......Girls always mature faster than boys, At least that was what my mom told me in Junior High!
