Welcome! Your Tater is beeeeutiful! I also have no experience with hearing impairment in dogs. I'm sure someone here will come along to help. It's a great thing for ALL of us to learn about!

I had a completely deaf great dane and when I managed the daycare we fostered a littler of deaf american bullies. Honestly it is no different training them than a regular dog , you just use hand signals instead of words. We used Standard american sign language because it was easier for the people who adopted them , but you can make up your own. The only thing that you need to work on is sneaking up behind your pup. Deaf dogs can startle when touched from behind because they don't know you are there. Sneak up behind your pup a few times a day and touch or gently grab her and then give her a treat immediately. This will prevent any future issues. Remember she doens't know he's deaf, it's you that needs the training
If tears could build a staircase and happy memories a lane, I could walk right up to Heaven and bring you home again!

That's such wonderful advice. And I love the last line.

Tater is ADORABULL! (and that big mastiff is darned handsome also btw)
That puppy fence has to be the most elaborate ever devised too. Wow!

There must be volumes written - or YouTubed? - on training deaf dogs?

Good luck. I think it sounds like the most fun ever!

    Love it @dozersmom! Well said.

    Tater is just precious.

I don't have much to add except when I took Lucy to basic obedience training when she was a pup the trainer encouraged us to use hand signals and commands. She also encouraged us to keep up with the hand signals as Lucy ages--just in case she would ever lose her hearing. Lucy knows a few commands that I signal and I would like to add a few more. She can spot the "are you hungry" hand signal from across the room!

I would reach out to a few trainers and ask them if they have experience with hearing impaired dogs--possibly they can direct you to someone who can help.

Welcome to EBN. You'll love it here.

My bf and I have wanted to get an english mastiff but wanted to do more research. Are they good dogs? I know yours is still a pup but how do you like having one so far? And so sorry to hear about Dozer RIP! He was a beautiful bully!

What a great use of the Empire Fence. Our whole yard is fenced with that exact fencing... well done!
