Hey there friends, My little Uni has something wrong with her eye. The part that is supposed to be white is more like a dark brown/gray color. She had an injury in this eye about 2 moths ago, we took her to the vet they put the dye in it and sent us home with some antibiotic drops. But in the last couple of weeks I noticed this discoloration of the eye, I also noticed what I think was cherry eye, but it only stuck out for a minute, when I tried to show my boyfriend it was already gone. I did some simple test to she if she could see out of that eye and she was not responding on that side. So I took her back to the vet. This time they said it was fine, the eye responded to the test and the pupil responded to light. They told me us to push the cherry eye back in and to not worry about the discoloration. Does any one have experience with this kind of thing? I wondering if I should see another vet. Is this normal?

I'm so sorry..I know nothing about eye issues..but we do have people that do. I will try and tag them. I know a lot of people recommend opthamologist that specialize in dogs. Good luck..hang on..the right people will find this. BabyDuke..BruceP

HRH has dry eye in one of her eyes. It got very red. And yet looked a bit cloudy. And every morning there were a lot of eye boogers to wipe up. She has been on an antibiotic tear gel for a couple months now and it looks much much better. It probably would be best to get a second opinion preferably from an opthomoligist, although so far we have only gone to her vet, he did say he would refer her to an opthomoligist if she needed surgery for entropian, but it ended up treating the dry eye was all she has needed so far.

Can you possibly get a pic of her eye? When you explained what you were looking at I was thinking Get her to a vet, but then you said the vet didn't seem concerned. Truthfully, I don't know. Sorry, I think you have to go with your gut feeling. Did the vet recommend any eye drops or anything?

So I couldn't make it to the vet appointment and I sent my boyfriend, so all of this is second hand from him. The vet called a specialist and they said not to worry that if the discoloration moved to the retina or the pupil then it is something to be concerned about. This confuses me, because how am I supposed to tell if the darkness moves in to the dark part of her eye? As far as pics go I have a few good ones I will post asap, but for now, all I have is dial-up internet so I am unable to load them. Also while looking through pics of her to find ones with good shots of the eyes, I noticed that the discoloration was there when she was very young. So it has been there I just didn't notice it!

Gravy's eyes look kind of like that. But he's had surgery on both eyes (2x on the left side) for cherry eye. And he has dry eye (left eye) so he gets gel in it 2x a day. I just chalked it up to that, or assumed it was fairly normal. His vision is fine & doesn't have any problems, other than some eye boogers every morning in the left eye.

Duke has had major surgery on both eyes.. we ended up taking him to an opthomologist but seems your vet did contact one? there are lots of reasons for discoloration .. Duke experienced a black circle a few months ago. we took him in and it was just some scarring from his surgery ..
keep us posted and cant' wait to see some pictures!

My JacK's eyeballs are not white either.
When I first brought Jack home, I took him to the vet because they were offerening me a free first time visit. They looked him over, and I expressed my concern about the color of his eyeballs. They are not white at all. They actually vary in color from a yellow tint to a light brownish tint . The Doctor, who by the way is a Bully owner herself, told me not to worry about it and that unfortunately that is just the color pigmentation of his eyeball. It doesnt look pretty but its healthy.

@JAKEISGREAT .. See Becky, I can be serious at times..... :tease:

By the way, that is the story of how Jack Daniels got his name.... Cause his eyes look blood shot all the time

I don't know anything about eye problems, but I AM wondering how you manage without going postal using a DIAL UP CONNECTION?!?!
My eyes would be red from rage.....! :lmao:

Incidentally, Bea's eyes aren't white either...they're like JAKEISGREAT described. Bo's seem to be more white...but not much.

Roscoe has the exact same problem. I took him to a opthamologist and it turned out he has vascular and pigmentary keratitis. It's a type of scarring caused by the fact that the protective covering of his eye doesn't cover it completely. His is a brown blotch that spread over the actual pupil though. My vet wasn't worried about the pigmentation until it spread there. He has to take special eye drops now and we're waiting to see if we'll need to do cornea surgery.

I wouldn't worry if the coloring isn't spreading. Roscoe's other eye is colorful as well and the vet said it's just 'a bully thing'. You'll notice if it does spread because the pupil will get sort of hazy or 'milky'. If you're really worried- ask your vet for a referral to take her to an opthamologist just to ease your nerves.

Thanks for your info everyone! That puts my mind more at ease. I will continue to watch it closely. As for my dial up connection.....IT DOES DRIVE ME CRAZY! I try to avoid using it except for when I really need to. It takes FOREVER just to check my email! But unfortunately it is dial-up or satellite, and I have been told the reception of the satellite depends on the weather. Here on the coast we get some storms and winter is when I do more surfing, so I am holding out on the three year contract for the satellite. Oh and I will post pics as soon as I go to town and get some high speed!
