questions about cyclosporin and kcs

Tyson's cyclosporin FINALLY came in the mail. We used it this morning and we will use it again tonight. He is on .25 gel twice a day. Anyone who has used it, how long does it take to find out if it works? This afternoon his eyes are full of yellow gunk again. I don't expect it to work miracles just wondering about how long it will take.

We use it twice a day for Lucy's dry eye. The discharge is pretty normal for the condition. Our opthamologist recommends leaving the goop in the eye but I flush it out with a product called blink. If I don't flush it out Lucy will paw at her eyes and I am afraid she will scratch her eye. If it doesn't bother him I would let it work it's way out of the eye.

[MENTION=2099]LucysMum[/MENTION] I flush Tyson's eyes too. He hates having that stuff in his eye and it blocks his vision. So the cyclosporin won't help with the goop? I thought that was the main purpose. his is not just a little goop it covers his who;e eye several times and is not tranparent

[MENTION=1665]dozersmama[/MENTION] You should start to see the overall condition of his eyes improving over the next two weeks or so. Less redness. He should stop fussing with them, rubbing, scratching etc. (if he ever did that) The goop is the body's natural response to repairing the deficiency (dry eye) so I think you will see a reduction in goop but it may still be there. Lucy has goop in her eyes when she wakes up and after a nap. That is completely normal according to my specialist. The cyclosporin is trying to replace what the eye is lacking--and hopefully will start to produce a higher quality tear.

I am sure every dog is different so maybe your goop will be gone. I think Lucy is a pretty tough case.

Also, keep in mind it is important to use the drops as prescribed. If you need to use something in between my specialist recommends the BLINK product to keep the eyes lubricated if they should look irritated during the day. It is a artificial tear product sold in drug stores. Don't use visine or anything like that--just BLINK or a product like it.
