Fergie
Hi everyone, I found this forum whilst searching for answers to a couple of questions regarding the care of my bulldog (I will save those questions and post as topics as I think thats what I am supposed to do right?). My name is Mark and I have now had Fergie for almost 1 year now, here he is>>

I am from England but currently living in the Philippines and had no intentions of taking on the responsibility of any dog let alone such a specialist breed, I have always had labradors in the past but regardless I would not have taken a dog whilst living here as I know I have to go back home within the next year or so. Anyway, here's how it happened........An acquaintance had to leave the Philippines quickly and he had recently purchased 3 bulldog puppies from the same litter with a view to breeding them, he had no idea what he was doing and when I saw the dogs whilst visiting his house I was disgusted in their condition and environment (you can see where this is going right?) so, long story short, I took them with a view to finding good homes for them. here they are shortly after I took them>>

I was able to find very good homes for the 2 girls but couldn't part with them all and ended up keeping the boy and I have to say this breed of dog is something else, he's more like a human than most humans I know! We had a shaky start as he was underweight and diagnosed with a blood parasite which fortunately he made a full recovery from and he is now tested regularly for it and his health and fitness are excellent.

He makes me laugh everyday, loves to walk, swim and play. He also loves to sleep and can snore louder than my dad and thats no mean feat let me tell you.

I've joined this forum to try and gain as much help and info about his care as possible, here in Cebu, Philippines I have been unable to find a bulldog specialist vet (although his vet is by far the best one here) and I have often had to do research myself and "suggest" a diagnosis which is how I came across this site whilst researching "pano". I also now have to fly him to the UK which is a major worry but as I said earlier I will post these questions under a new topic as I don't think this is the right place for it.

Needless to say, I am now totally in love with the breed and Fergie in particular and want him to live as long and healthy life as possible, he is fed on hills science diet vetessentials which he seems to be doing very well on, he also has nutri-plus gel and glucosomine supplements, the one thing he isn't is greedy, which I believe is strange for bulldogs. We walk 4 times a day, long walks in the morning and at night and two short walks through the day as it is very hot.
He will be 2 in November and weighs 23 kilo so I think he is in very good shape but any tips on his care will be greatly appreciated.

I hope I have done this correctly and thank you in advance for this opportunity and any advice received, heres some more pictures of Fergie (named after Sir Alex Ferguson).

I too am originally from Uk and I have been living in Australia for the past 44 years and my Bullie Ftse will also be two in November.

Fergie did have a struggle at the beginning but thanks to you he now is improving and he looks like a very handsome boy I love the photos of him

This one looks like a typical Bulldog resting their heavy head. I look forward to seeing many more photos of Fergie.

Hello Mark & Fergie, welcome to the loony bin, er, ahem...EBN! Great introduction,
I so enjoyed it and thank you for all the pics, Fergie is so handsome...and very lucky!
GOD bless you for rehoming those babies. I, too, never thought I'd own a bulldog altho
we grew up with Boston Terriers and my youngest sister continues to own them.

Am on my 2nd bully, both older bullies needing homes when their owner's situations
changed. My 1st one, Brutus, I adopted last year and had him just 6 months before
losing him to surgery complications. But he & I loved each other more than if we'd had
20 years together. A breeder here, Davidh, helped me find Cami, here just 3 weeks.

Can't imagine life without a bully now.
;) Again, welcome here, it's a great place!!

Hello & Welcome! You've certainly come the the right place and someone trained you well (perhaps Sir Fergie already) because you posted pictures right off the bat! We *LOVE* pictures. Your boy is so very lucky to have someone who cares for him so much. Bless you for taking those babies in and re-homing the girls. I hope they are doing as well as your Sir Fergie is. Sounds like you've done your homework. I love the "frog leg" picture - #6 from the top. That tells me he's got good hips which is certainly an issue for bulldogs. The only thing I'd say is watch out for the heat, they can overheat so quickly, before you even have a clue that they are in distress. Our vet preaches this this to us every time we take Mona in. I don't mind it, I understand his concern is Mona and strictly Mona. Also please don't ever leave him outside. I don't now about the area you live in but these dogs are stolen when left outside alone. They can get stung by bees and have an allergic reaction and again, they can over heat quickly.
Have fun on our site. I commend you for joining our crazy group!
