This brought tears to my eyes! What a lucky girl Kiah is to have such a wonder person like you now as her owner! She is an absolute beauty. Thank you for opening your heart to this beautiful girl. It's people like you that make this world a wonderful place.

What a wonderful story! And it's just the beginning! Can't wait to read more about how she is doing.

I worked with a Rotti rescue that deals with high aggression dogs coming from abuse years back, most of the dogs came out of drug houses where they were made mean in horrible ways. One Rotti we had was caged for a unknown legnth of time, the owner was a dealer who had died and the wife couldn't go near the dog so she put some food in and left. My boss had to use a pole to move him from the cage and trasport into our runs. This dog wanted to kill, it took 2 months before we were able to open his run without him trying to smash through the gate at us and 3 months before we could leash him for quick 1 min rehab walks. After what seemed like an impossible rehab I took him out for his first job in security, when I took him off the truck and unleashed him into the yard he turned at me and jump with his paws on my shoulders. This boy was so big he was looking down on me and I thought I was about to be eaten... he gave me a big kiss and then sat at the fence. From that day on he was the gentlest dog we had and was very loyal to me, he had finally came to trust us.I am so glad Kiah found you, I am sure she will continue to impress you and I hope her past owner is charged and doesn't get anymore pets.
Thank you all for the kind words. She amazes me every second. We worked on "leave it" and "come" today. She is really catching on and I don't need to treat her nearly as often. She knows I'm happy with her, her energy was like a lightning storm when I first got her, now its the calm after the storm. She still isn't used to it, I can feel her shift, but the times in between are getting longer and longer. I took her outside for a quick potty and she was the calmest I've seen to date, she followed like a champ. Then a stray cat walked across the street. Lol she jumped so high cause she got caught slipping, she was so calm, her guard was completely down, she reacted just like a puppy. That was very big for her. Its the first time she didn't drop down, ears up and start to lunge. It was truly amazing. I redirected the other way and we went towards the porch. She followed perfectly and was calm again within seconds. I need to get a helmet cam to catch these moments, they are priceless. I've seen her jump and flip, I'm 5'11" and she can easily jump up past my chest, I think see a frisbee or a dog buoy in her future...

    Odessa,
I have worked with Rotties when I was a teenager. Aggressive to show quality. They are such great dogs. I've seen those cases up close, I know exactly how you must have felt. I grew up just north of Detroit and I've seen so many with owners that have no idea what their doing. They are amazing dogs and so loyal. All of my step dads side of the family owned one. Each and every one were wonderful. He was very lucky he had you to care for him. How is he doing now?

For the longest time I've felt like I've been searching/waiting for something. I had no idea what it was or where to look. I've been going to shelters for about a year now and nothing "clicked". I stopped looking and moved forward. Then all of a sudden, here's Kiah! She came and that feeling just dissipated. She has changed so much in the past week, almost as much as I have... She has started to re-balance my life, just as I have hers. We still have a long way to go, but we are definitely on the right path!

to you Mike and Kiah, what a lucky girl is that you went there that day and you too are lucky for going there. this is going to be a good match for you both and Thank you for caring so much and taking her home with you and showing her the love that she desperately needs.
how people can treat pets like this gets me, I just hope that woman gets what she deserves for treating Kiah like that, it breaks my heart to know that there are people (if you can call them that) out there and treating these poor babies like that.

welcome to the group. I am so glad you were able to rescue Kiah. I just recently rescued one myself a month ago from a puppy mill. she is 3 actually and well set in her ways and it has been a long battle for me to help her coop with the changes in her life. it is going very slowly. some days shes perfect and others she is horrible. Bull dogs are stubborn anyways so that makes it worse
I am glad you joined. in the months time this group has helped me with so many issues that I wouldn't have over come already without the help. Its a great group and I am glad to also be apart of it. I hope you are able to get Kiah to a wonderful loving bullie. look forward to seeing your posts. maybe we can help each other along the way with various issues.

Welcome Mike! I am so glad you were able to rescue the charming Kiah! I enjoyed reading your story, but wish it weren't so. I can see the guarded look in her eye and I hope you are able to help her lose that and be loving baby she is inside. Good luck!

@christyjulene - LOL I didn't even catch that but you are 100% correct. I have years of experience which has taught me to have others come in as well. Everyday i'm learning more and more. Ana from Primal Hound in Miami is amazing. She drives an hour just to come up here.

@michelle23093 - Patience is a must with my girl. In almost 2 weeks time we have almost mastered the walk, sit, come and she is learning how to play. I finally found a toy that she is interested in so she can relax. She was always in guard mode and she was the calmest I've seen her last night.
@luseaann The first few days with her were very rough. She constantly tried to challenge me and she is learning I won't back down, you should she her in the am all sleepy eyed when I let her out of her crate. She's like a puppy. When she has that look in her eyes, I just get all like, "Whose my bulldoggy?" and she gets playful. She's licking me within seconds

Thank you again for all the kind words. Here are some updates on my pretty lil girl...

She has never played with toys before so getting her interested is a feat within itself. We've gone through many that she just wasn't interested in. I went to the pet store today to get her a Kong Genius, she took to it pretty well and got really excited and then threw it up in the air and it smacked against her water bowl. Poor girl was really scared and wouldn't go near her water bowl. As we all know, this can be very dangerous. I started working some commands with her and then I trailed some treats to her bowls. Once she got close I got a cold bottle of water and treated a couple times. All while splashing cold water on my hands and praising her. She's been to her bowl 3 times since

    Now for the best part...

We went on our evening walk just as the sun was dropping below the horizon. We went down 1 block over and a bunch of people were outside partying and of course there a dog off leash (I've been working with her with on "leave it", "Lets go", and "Come" on all our walks). I stayed 100% calm and increased my energy, focusing on nothing but the road in front of us. I continued my pace and continued working in my commands. My girl looked at the dog and didn't skip a beat!!!! I was soooooooo very proud of her. No growling, lunging, charging, or aggressive energy. I wasn't going to stick around of course, we were in migrate mode, which I must say she is really starting to enjoy. I got her past the situation and I stopped to praise/treat her, we sat for a min and I almost lost it. I couldn't believe how well she did. She is coming along so very nicely. We got home and played for awhile. I stood up and sat in my recliner and she jumped right up into my lap. Licking my face and nuzzling.

I must say to all of you, I've never felt so welcomed before. Thank you all for making this transition with Kiah an easier one for both of us. Truly, from the depths of my heart and soul...
Everyday I see an improvement. Everyday she respects and trusts me even more. I'm honored that she chose me...

You are proof that even some of the most unsocialized dogs can become amazing dogs with just a little direction and devotion. Thanks for being there to save Kiah.
