Hello everyone,

We are so excited to have joined this site. We have found some really great information here. It has made bringing our Darla home so much easier. Our new baby girl is 15 weeks old and is the cutest thing. She was so mellow and shy the 1st week she was with us but has since opened up a lot more and has become a lot more playful.

The only thing I have noticed about her is that she scares so easily. Just about any noise will send her running off to her bed or under the table. This makes trying to teach her to go potty outside very difficult. She is so scared she doesnt want to step outside. I know she was inside before I brought her home. But she doesnt seem the least bit interested in exploring outside. Any suggestions?!

Welcome and Darla is beautiful. Many bullies are afraid of noises, our Amber ran as fast as she could when she was a puppy if she heard unfamiliar noises. There are some that still frighten her but not many, be reassuring and she will come around. She is just a baby so everything is new, she will get more assertive as she grows and gains confidence. Again, welcome and looking forward to watching her grow.

:hiya: Welcome and it's wonderful that you've found useful info here already! Darla is beautiful! I know what you mean about Bully's and fear! Jake is 2 years old and terrified of the broom! The very same broom that has been in the very same place every single day of his life since he was 8 weeks old! he has to be escorted by it every night to get into his bed! :bang: Rottwieilers they are NOT! :)

Looking forward to watching her grow and getting to know all of you! :D

:welcome3: What a cutie little Darla is.

Our princess is a chicken too. Sounds, wind, and about a million other things are all out to get her.
Just give her lots of love between scares. And try to just exude a calm feeling if a sound scares her. Act like its no big deal. If your calm it can calm her. Also we dress HRH because she seems to be calmer and more secure when she's dressed.

Bogey has actually demonstrated some bravery with outside noises or something new! He cautiously investigates whatever got his attention. HOWEVER, when we take him on his daily walk, we have to CARRY him past the first three " evil" houses! Once past them, he happily walks! Now mind you, in two of these houses live his little furry dog friends! We have no idea why, but he WON'T walk past them starting the walk, but WILL walk past them on the way home! Scardy cats they are, with no rhyme or reason why! But seriously, don't make a big fuss over her scared tendencies. carry on as normal, and try not to comfort her when she acts scared, it only reinforces the fear! Act like it is no big deal and she is being silly being so scared! I had a very timid bullmastiff that we worked very diligently with, socializing in all kinds of situations, and I made LOTS of noise at home so he would get used to it. He turned out to be a great dog with minimal fears. But I am sure we will always have "evil" houses, brooms, and any other thing our bullies decide are something to be afraid of! Ya gotta love them!!

Hello and :welcome3: to EBN ... Darla is precious!!

my advice is "exposure exposure exposure" the more new things you introduce her to the more confident she will be. Soon as mine had their shots I would expose them to new things every day and a lot of socialization with dogs, people, sounds and new places!! Make sure you are calm and confident as you do this so Darla can feed off of your positive association energy, that is very important!! The more socialization & exposure to new things, sounds & places the better :)

:smileywelcome: to EBN. Your baby is precious but as with every baby, it's a big scary world out there. Patience and a calming attitude is what she needs. Im glad you are enjoying the website and hope you will continue to participate. Thanx for joining. :)

:welcome::welcome: to EBN, looks like you got some good advice above, the only other thing I would suggest is if she responds to treats show it to her and have her follow you outside. When Bacon was a puppy he had a very one track mind (still does) so if he knew you had a treat in your hand that he wanted he would follow you anywhere and not pay attention to his surroundings.

Hello and :welcome3: to EBN.... keep her socialized and SOME of her fears will diminish, but most bullies have some quirky fears ... brooms, vacuums, plastic bags, etc.

GOOD luck and loove to see more picture of your sweetie!
