    Default New here

Hello my real name is Rachel. I just bought a 1 year AKC english bulldog female named Genevieve. I love her so much! I hope to get lots of info and advice. I have owned a english bulldogs before but he was much taller and bigger built than Genevieve. I guess she is the smallest english I have ever seen weighing in at 26 pounds. She is in good health, the vet said yesterday, as we took her for a check up and booster shot. Doc was little worried about putting her to sleep to get her spayed because there is not alot of room in her mouth for breathing tub. Did your girls do ok being put to sleep? We are feeding Nutro Natural Balance. Vet doesn't want her to gain alot weight because she has such a small frame. Any advice is welcome

Welcome to the site! Happy to have you and would love to see pictures of your little girl! English Bulldogs are known to have complications under anesthesia, it is important to have a vet that is very familiar with bulldogs do it. Samson has had surgery/been under anesthesia 3 times and thankfully we have never had any problems. Nutro is ok, not the best food in the world for bullys. Everyone has their favorite, I like Natural Balance Sweet Potato & Fish and Fromm Surf & Turf. On the home page here there is a link to dog food ratings that is very helpful. I used to feed Samson Nutro Natural Choice as well until I heard it had a lot of fillers so we switched. Love her name by the way!

    Welcome!!!

Hope to see pics of your little one. Tessa gave excellent advice, find a bulldog vet in your area to have her evaluated. There may be other options for spaying besides anethsia, I am not sure.

So glad to have you join our community, looking forward to getting to know you and your bully baby better!

Welcome to the group. You will soon find that you will become addicted very quickly. You little one is adorable. The sedation question: My Bella is little, 31lbs and the size of a puppy. I had her fixed during her first heat cycle, we had to wait till she was older....long story. Anyway she did fine. I am a little confused on why the vet had her airway as a reason not to. I am sure he/she has had to preform surgery on smaller dogs (toys) along with cats before.

Anyway, welcome again. We are glad you are here and can't wait to see more photos.

    Always with me

May not be any concern, I talked to my (check up) vet about possibly nuetering tidus in the future and he said he would not be comfortable spaying a bully. They do require special care under anesthesia, and he would prefer I do that with my bully specialist.

Vet said he does recommend the getting her spayed because it reduces the risk of mammory cancer. He just warned that her airways being so compact it is more of a risky surgery than other types of dogs. So I wanted to do some research on it first. Spaying vs not....we don't plan on breeding her. Just want her to have as long of a life span as she can and a happy life at that
