New to the forum, I've had my little English since he was about 16 weeks old. His name is Max and he will be 2 in September. He is my best buddy, helping me and my human kids get through a really rough divorce with his silliness. I got him through an ad on Petfinder. A lady local to me had purchased him at 8 weeks, then lost her job. at 16 weeks, he already needed cherry eye surgery in one eye and entropian in both. She could not afford the procedures and agreed to "give" him to me if I promised to have the procedures done, which I did. He's a terrific dog, but we has some socialization (with other dogs) issues in the beginning because she had been afraid to take him out places because his eye glands were so easily prone to cherry.

Then I met my bf, and he has an enormous (170 pounds) American Bulldog. For some reason, those two really hit it off, and now are BFFs. lol. He (Bubbers), taught my Max how to get along with other dogs with incredible patience. :D

I love my bully, but he does have some health issues. He's had three cherry eye surgeries (no, he does not have three eyes. lol. We elected for the pocket surgery and one of them had to be redone), bilateral entropian, and he's "denatured" (neutered) as my 8 year old sons says. We have been battling with food allergies his whole life, and his ears have a tendancy to be very yeasty and stinky (you know what I mean), but I think that has been due, in part, to his food allergy issues. We are still trying to find what is right for him. I'm thinking now that it may be a chicken allergy and am planning to switch him to a raw diet when I am done with summer school. Also, while he does not have a "tail pocket," we have booty problems because his poop is always very wet and his little tail is tacked down so close to his rump that poo gets stuck on the bottom of his tail. :(

Anyway, he and Bubbers (I posted a really small album on my profile) are my fur babies and I would not trade him. I'm a single mom, work full time as a photographer and part time as a substitute teacher, and am back in college, so I don't have as much time to spend with him as I wish I could.

Just wanted to introduce us and say hello! I'm so glad to have found this forum. I think the best people in the world own English Bulldogs! :D

Well welcome aboard!!!!! You are in the right place to learn about foods and work on his allergies. cowsmom knows everything about food and ingredients etc so she can help you if you want. What brands do you feed? Is he on grain free? Chicken is hard on many bullies so that could easily be the case. There is a buzz going around about hair analysis for allergy testing and it is like 50 bucks or so, not a bad deal. I havent done it yet but am going to with my Miila who too has a hard time with everything including seasonal. A photographer huh? ugh..... I really stand no chance of winning the photo of the month contests with so many great photographers here. :lmao: Will go check out your album now, your family sounds awesome. :)

Hello and welcome to the site.... your boy sounds like allergies are kicking his butt (pun intended).

Talk to your vet about a a full blood screen allergy test... in the meantime, avoid chicken, salmon and grains as they tend to be the big hitters with bullies and allergies

:hiya: So happy to meet you and the Boyz! Max sounds like he was a very lucky guy to find you! It does sound like allergies are giving him a rough time. I know it seems like allergy testing is expensive...but compared to bags and bgs of just opened dog food...it will save you in the long run! Make yourself at home and going to check out your album!

Welcome to EBN family of bulldog addicts. I had problem feeding mine chicken and salmon also. I now feed some raw burger mix and California Natural Lamb. It seems to be a good combo so far.

he sounds like he has allergy issues...chicken is very common and you'd be surprised at how many foods have chicken in them when you look at the ingredients

I'm so glad Max found you --- and you found us. Welcome!

I had a similar "tail wiping" requirement with my first EB. Mable had no pocket but allllllllllways trouble with that area right underneath. Since coming here, I've learned that the crappy food she was on was likely the culprit and I could have saved myself a million baby wipes and untold bottles of "anti-itch" shampoo. I just didn't know better. Boy I sure do now! :D
