Just wanted to say hello and also thank everyone for posting here, and to the mods/owner of the site for running it!

My fiance has a 5 yr old EBD I have known and helped raise since he was a baby. :) Over the years, he's had issues here and there, but recently, has just had a lot of issues all at the same time. Reading things here have helped tremendously. I opted to try a new vet today, who listened to my concerns and took his time with me. Thanks to the forum, I could ask questions I hadn't known to ask before.

Our (I say our, since I take a lot of care of the doggie) baby has been losing hair (always been told it's a seasonal thing, never been mange, etc) and his chin acne got suddenly awful in just a few weeks and nothing was helping it. He has one huge lump that was scaring me. When I bathed him last night and a clump of hair from his tail came out, I said that's it, I'm taking him somewhere else in the morning.

The last time we were at the vet, (I took him in re: his gums and to see if anything needed to be done for his gingival hyperplasia, which came on pretty sudden and which the vet blew me off about) he made us feel horrible and like criminals about his entropion, referred us to a veterinary eye specialist over an hour away who quoted us over the phone, $1600. Fiance was upset since here the dog is almost 5 and previous vet never mentioned or recommended surgery, just told us to rinse the eyes daily with saline. The vet today said his eyes are fine and he sees no cornea issues (so much was going on I forgot to get back to that subject) and it looks worse than it is on him. I was upset with the last vet because he didn't have concerns with how yeasty he was (I got malakat wipes on my own online, and fungal creams for the face which helped greatly) except to point it out. Our bully proceeded to pee on the floor while he was looking at him, and the vet stood up quickly, said "he's peeing" and left the room to tell someone to get a mop. I was then told I could go out front (to pay). I guess the exam and Q and A was over. I felt awful and really didn't want to take him back there. :(

My vet today didn't treat me like an idiot, really listened, and even complimented me on my good tail pocket cleaning skills, lol. (Can I own stock in Pampers sensitive baby wipes, please) Ours has a tight pocket and it's cleaned daily! Our baby loves it, actually!

So - he recommended a yeast panel, did do a skin scrape (which I kinda didn't want him to do since it's been ruled out in the past) which was negative and talked to me about an allergy panel. $300 but I went for it. So am curious to hear how that goes.

The worst is, I came in for the chin and skin issues, and looking in our babies mouth, they found an abscess on one of his front canines - with hair and junk in it and are recommending a dental, anywhere from $400 to $600. I feel so bad for our baby and will be scheduling it right away on Monday once I have my work schedule cleared to know what day I can bring him in for it. :(

Left with a new shampoo (Zymox) and antibiotics for 21 days. (Cefpodoxime, woah, that one is expensive!)

Started him on new food this week too using forum advice (yes, we are guilty of IAMs too - only thing that didn't give him diarrhea (we tried Blue Buffalo in early stages and a few others and couldn't stop the diarrhea even when slowly introducing it and fiance swore by it)- Natural Balance LTD Lamb and Rice and he has a bit of loose stool even though we're doing 1/2 and 1/2 right now...
(Edit to add, I ordered from Mr. Chewy. They also mistakenly sent me my order, along with a 24 l b bag of Blue Buffalo Salmon!! I called to see what happened and they said it was a mistake and to please keep it - so who knows, we may need it once we see the allergy panel, if not, I will donate it, don't want to go back and forth and worried salmon may not be a good match for him after reading about it here).

Anyways, that's my story and wanted to say hi and thank you. I will update when I get the fungal results and allergy panel back. And let ya know how his dental goes. I hope they can save his tooth. :(

Oh, and the tech agreed, for me to try some plain yogurt with his food (Which I had read about here), so I got some today!

:welcome: so glad you found some help here already! It is expensive up front getting that allergy panel, but it will save you so much more in the long run when you learn what to avoid because he is allergic and will cause health issues.

Hope you can figure out the pic thing soon so we can see Mr D.

:welcome: You sound like a great bulliemommi. I'm grateful for EBN Forums too and the people who keep it going! I have learned to be a better bulldog mama! Hope your fur baby gets on track and his tooth problem gets fixed. I'm always having tooth problems so I feel his pain. You know these bulldogs can be a work in progress so we often have to be bully nurses too! :doctor: Thanks for joining and we appreciate your input. Curious to hear what his allergy panel says and maybe it will help him get on the right food and as you know that is more than half the battle.

Oh my word @bulliemommi!! you have been through such a turmoil with unworthy vets. Don't be fretting about Mr D, you knew something wasnt right but unfortunately had a vet that failed you. thankfully you saught knowledge yourself which brought you here and the reading gave you the confidence to try a new vet and approach them with some knowledge. I am so happy you found us and more happy that you searched for answers to your babies problems. When yoy have the results from the allergy panel cowsmom will like as not beable to offer advise on food choices. She has helped so many here already and is an absolute doll

Pics of Mr D would be nice though and better be quick about it because they are a tough crowd and will become very demanding soon.
I will be loking for updates and send snuggles for Mr D (I hope that is right)

I meant to post earlier too, he was really worked up at the vet, panting, etc, and his skin got really RED and I told them I had never, which is true, seen it look like that. He relaxed more when we got home and when I was cooking dinner he came over to me in the kitchen and I got down on the floor with him and he put his face in the crook of my neck, nuzzled and then and licked me. I wanted to cry. It sounds dumb, but he's not a big licker, so it just seemed like we had a "moment" lol and he was thanking me.

Again, thanks for all the lovely comments and support! agingermom, yes, I am totally exhausted, mentally and financially, lol. I figured the vet visit today may run a few hundred (had forgotten about the cost of the allergy panel until the vet brought it up, and was glad he did, and am still wondering why in 5 yrs he is the first to do so??) - it was over 5 and we're still not done yet, not with the upcoming dental at $400-$600. Mr. D got his first yogurt today and he seemed to really enjoy it. :) I put a tablespoon in a bowl for him because I forgot to put it on his food.

:welcome: to EBN. A tablespoon or two of canned pumpkin mixed into his food while you are transitioning from one food to another will tighten up his poo. Use canned pumpkin, NOT pie filling. Glad you joined and have found the site informative. Please join into any of the conversations as this is a great social site as well. Thanx again for joining :)
