Hi all, I am brand new to the website. My husband and I owned a bulldog, but only for a short minute. I adopted a beautiful little male, brindle and white, as a Christmas gift for my husband. He was wonderful. We named him Mac. WE got Mac his shots, fed him organic food, and loved him so much. Unfortunately, Mac was a very sick puppy. After we had him for a month or two, and after two or three trips to the vet, we could not figure out why Mac wasn't eating and playing, and gaining weight. As it turns out, Mac was born with a collapsed trachea and a hernia. We took him to a specialist to discover the only solution was a series of surgeries. I would have had the surgeries done, however, the specialist said that because of Macs condition, he had less then a 50% chance of survival. Under the advisement of the specialist, we put Mac to rest. It was the hardest thing we have ever done. Awful. And to add insult to injury, the woman who sold us Mac refused to make right our situation. Poor breading practices was not to blame, however, she sold us a sick puppy and refused to right her wrong. I don't even care about the few thousand we spent on Mac trying to make him well, it is the heartache of losing him that hurts the most.
Well, enough about the sob story. I joined because my husband and I are looking to adopt again. I wanted to know thoughts on AKC vs. CKC. I know with this breed we always risk problems, but I want to avoid the heartache we have already experienced. The parents of Mac were both AKC registered, and Mac was also AKC registrable. I'm not sure that this means anything regarding his conditions. The specialist said Mac's problems are common of the breed, Mac was just unfortunate to have multiple problems at the same time at such a young age. So...there is my story. Any info would be appreciated.
