I have heard that Orijen is a good food but if it is true that it is high in protien then it may not be the best for bullies. Someone with way more food experience will certainly straighten us both out.. LOL Thanx for the question, that is how we learn.

ps: we are very happy with Fromm

If you have an active bulldog and you walk and exercise them plenty it is a great choice.

There is a new Orijen food it is the "Acana Grain Free Formula" it is a lot lower in protein as well.
Has anyone tried this? I am still struggling to make the right food choice

desertskybulldogs..do you have any info on natures domain? Sold at Costco. Just saw where it is basically totw..but mfg doesn't want their name sold at Costco. Saw it rated a 5 somewhere! $32.00 for large bag..saw a couple people are unemployed and cost is huge concern. Just a thought what you think..

I will have to look more into it. I just wonder the validity of the statement you read. What is the source? I will check into it and see what I find out.

It's me againdesertskybulldogs..the big pest! Well..I had read about this dog food on other forum I used to belong to..before I got smart!..lol..I saw it at my Costco awhile back and read about it. It is made by diamond..same as totw..I did compare labels..pretty close..tonight I went on that dogfoodadvisor site and did find it. Rated 4 out of 5 there. Read some of the comments..just thought it might be worth learning about for members who have economic reasons. Might be worth checking out. I don't know what I'm doing..so thought maybe in ALL your spare time...lol...you could see if it's worth rating here. At $32 for big bag..could be an option for few people. Hope I'm not out of line. I read on a post where someone had to go with cheap dog food until they got jobs or if their dog develops problems. Made me sad.

Looking at the ingredients I could say this in no way would compare to Taste of the Wild. I would probably add this to our list as a 4 star food. My main concern with this food is the amount of potatoes it has in it. For yeast growth-- this would be very bad. The first oil is canola oil, which is the 5th ingredient. This tells us this food is made up mostly of the first 5 ingredients. Then it is followed by another two potato ingredients. None of which are bad ingredients, but canola oil is not the best fat source.

Ingredients: Salmon meal, sweet potatoes, peas, potatoes, canola oil, potato protein, potato fiber, natural flavor, flaxseed, ocean fish meal, salt, choline chloride, dried chicory root, tomatoes, blueberries, raspberries, yucca schidigera extract, dried Enterococcus faecium fermentation product, dried Lactobacillus acidophilus fermentation product, dried Lactobacillus casei fermentation product, dried Lactobacillus plantarum fermentation product, dried Trichoderma longibrachiatum fermentation extract, vitamin E supplement, iron proteinate, zinc proteinate, copper proteinate, ferrous sulfate, zinc sulfate, copper sulfate, potassium iodide, thiamine mononitrate (vitamin B1), manganese proteinate, manganous oxide, ascorbic acid, vitamin A supplement, biotin, calcium pantothenate, manganese sulfate, sodium selenite, pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B6), vitamin B12 supplement, riboflavin (vitamin B2), vitamin D supplement, folic acid

Here is the ingredients of totw pacific stream in comparison, they are very close..... but TOTW does have a difference on the top ingredients:

Salmon, ocean fish meal, sweet potatoes, potatoes, canola oil, salmon meal, smoked salmon, potato fiber, natural flavor, salt, choline chloride, dried chicory root, tomatoes, blueberries, raspberries, yucca schidigera extract, dried fermentation products of Enterococcus faecium, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus casei and Lactobacillus plantarum, dried Trichoderma longibrachiatum fermentation extract, vitamin E supplement, iron proteinate, zinc proteinate, copper proteinate, ferrous sulfate, zinc sulfate, copper sulfate, potassium iodide, thiamine mononitrate (vitamin B1), manganese proteinate, manganous oxide, ascorbic acid, vitamin A supplement, biotin, niacin, calcium pantothenate, manganese sulfate, sodium selenite, pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B6), vitamin B12 supplement, riboflavin (vitamin B2), vitamin D supplement, folic acid

I would say it is a good option for those on a budget. For $32 a bag I think I may even give it a trial.

But with any grain free foods, you could develop yeast issues. If this happens, try Nature's Variety Instinct.

In Fromm Grain Free, the potatoes score further down the list with more (7) main ingredients:

Salmon, Duck Meal, Potatoes, Pea Flour, Sweet Potatoes, Duck, Chicken Fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols), Dried Tomato Pomace, Salmon Meal, Whole Dried Egg, Pea Protein, Chicken, Flaxseed, Cheese, Salmon Oil (preserved with mixed tocopherols), Chicken Broth, Carrots, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Apples, Green Beans, Lecithin, Chicken Cartilage, Potassium Chloride, Cranberries, Blueberries, Salt, Chicory Root Extract, Alfalfa Sprouts, Yucca Schidigera Extract, Folic Acid, Parsley, Lactobacillus Acidophilus, Bifidobacterium Longum, Lactobacillus Plantarum, Enterococcous Faecium, Vitamin A, D3, E, B12 Supplements, Choline Bitartrate, Niacin, Pantothenic Acid, Ascorbic Acid, Riboflavin, Thiamine Mononitrate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Biotin, Zinc Sulfate, Ferrous Sulfate, Manganous Sulfate, Copper Sulfate, Cobalt Carbonate, Calcium Iodate, Sorbic Acid, Iron Proteinate, Zinc Proteinate, Copper Proteinate, Manganese Proteinate, Sodium Selenite.

Also you see the lack of the word 'supplement' in Fromm, more natural vitamins in Fromm plus the probiotics are in writing in the guaranteed analysis.

If you do develop yeast issues on a grain free food (this can happen with all the potatoes), try Nature's Variety Instinct has no potatoes or gluten, good for bullies with yeast issues, but a higher protein content. Make sure your bully gets plenty of exercise if you feed this food:

Salmon Meal, Herring Meal, Menhaden Fish Meal, Canola Oil, Tapioca, Pea Starch, Pork Liver, Natural Pork Flavor, Coconut Oil, Sun-Cured Alfalfa Meal, Tomato Pomace, Montmorillonite Clay, Vitamins (Choline Chloride, Vitamin E Supplement, Ascorbic Acid, Biotin, Niacin Supplement, Vitamin A Acetate, d-Calcium Pantothenate, Riboflavin Supplement, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Thiamine Mononitrate, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Carotene, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Folic Acid), Potassium Chloride, Minerals (Zinc Proteinate, Iron Proteinate, Manganese Proteinate, Copper Proteinate, Sodium Selenite, Ethylenediamine Dihydriodide), Sea Salt, Dried Kelp, Direct-Fed Microorganisms (Saccharomyces Cerevisiae Yeast Culture, Dried Enterococcus Faecium Fermentation Product, Dried Lactobacillus Acidophilus Fermentation Product, Dried Aspergillus Niger Fermentation Extract, Dried Trichoderma Longibrachiatum Fermentation Extract, Dried Bacillus Subtilis Fermentation Extract), Taurine, Carrots, Garlic, Apples, Pumpkin, Mixed Tocopherols with Citric Acid (a natural preservative), Rosemary Extract, Freeze Dried Cod.

As you can see, a totally different diet here.

Wow..that sucks! A lot of people don't like the potato here cuz of yeast issues! Maybe you should check into the Costco onedesertskybulldogs is doing. It's not perfect..but Samson doesn't have a white face so tear stains wouldn't be a concern. It's made by the same people who do taste of the wild. $32 for big bag!! Maybe you can pm her about it.

Omg..I am a dweeb..just saw what thread this is on!! She likes it better than she thought she would. Worth a thought.

Avoderm is not grain free. It is good for the coat, but may not be as good as NVI for that. Do they have a Costco in your neck of the woods? The Costco food is not as good on the coat but if you give salmon oil it may be okay.

Costco is at least an hour drive :(. How come the bag says grain free if it's not grain free?

Yes this is the formula I was taking about. I know it's not the greatest to buy through the retailer but petsmart carries their grain free line now and I thought it could be an option.
