Unfortunately nothing like toys or petting are incentives for George only food and even that isn't enough if he doesn't want to do something. I can see how nilif works for training but with him nothing is as much fun as biting and chewing on us so I'm totally at a loss to know how to stop this.
He's playing or sitting one minute next thing he fixates on our hands or feet and just attacks and it's not related to us moving, he seems to just decide it would be fun. He will not play with us he takes the toy away into his bed/crate and then returns to bite, the aggression seems to get worse if we keep reproducing the toy.
I also have family living close by who call in at the most inappropriate times and allow George to do what he likes I can't tell them to stop him they don't listen so any work I do with him is usually ruined in a couple of hours.

Sounds like the good ole puppy phase! Also known as the shark phase- hands and feet, just about anything. The crate will be your friend!

Good luck...

Ok well I guess I can live with it if it's a puppy thing. But I won't be giving up on trying to train him. Thanks guys.

I would NOT be happy if any family member came to my house and "undid" all the work I have instilled during the training process…this is NOT okay! If you're one to avoid conflict with people then you must crate George while they are over, but I think you should mention that he is in training and it is important that they respect that and not interfere!
It's good that you won't give up on trying to train, persistence is key w/training!! Good luck, I hope it works out and let me know if you want me to tell your family to back off :bitching: (half joking:smoochwink:)

Sorry, I hijacked this thread from poor megan…hope your training is going well!!

Unfortunately they only come in to see him and would just get really annoyed and stop talking to me for keeping him from them so it's a no win situation. But as I said I will just keep trying. Maybe if he bites them they will back off so I might just let that happen

I have some similar problems with aggression in my 5 month old bulldog. He is not allowed on any furniture or to our bedrooms he sleeps in a crate and sometimes in a dog bed in the living room. He can be very affectionate at times but a lot of the time he just tries to nip us and attacks our feet and when it gets bad he comes at us with his mouth open to bite. I have had a trainer in my home and he was as good as gold so I am still no further on with this issue as a trainer can't fix a behaviour they don't see. While we got tips as to what to do George just doesn't listen to us. I am hoping it's a puppy thing but I'm not sure.
You have my sympathy with this issue but know you are not alone. I also live in a small place and it's hard to socialise dogs when there is no dog parks etc nearby. I hope you can get help sorted.

We have exactly the same issues with Reggie. Trainer couldn't help as Reggie was the perfect puppy while he was at the house.
He is a very nervous pup, which I think is the root cause of the issues. We just wish he would stop attacking us, he has drawn blood so many times I look like a cutter, although Kev gets the worst of it.
It seems like dominance issues but I've read so much about that theory being disproved by so many experts I don't know what to think any more!

Are you or have you tried... 'nothing in life is free' --- http://www.englishbulldognews.com/f...ioral/33985-life-free-training-technique.html. And, are all humans in the house following the same rules/limits with Reggie? If not, he knows it and is taking advantage of that weakness.

We are at 18 months now and things have calmed down a lot but he still gets angry sometimes. Thankfully we have never had any blood drawn but it's been close. You are probably right it is nerves with them, George gets this way when he is tired. I'm not unconvinced that dominance doesn't work I think it does with most breeds but Bulldogs are different and it isn't as effective. I hope Reggie settles down for you soon.

I'm glad things have calmed down for you! Its nice to know thatthingscan get better as they get older.
You're right about when they are tired! Sometimes he just wants a nice cuddle, sometimes he is extra grumpy - but he has started taking himself off to bed if he doesn't want any interaction, which is nice!!

That's good that he knows to go to his bed when he's had enough George will do that too eventually.
