Advice would be much appreciated!!

This here is Dogen Zengi. We've had him for 5 days.
he is a 3,almost 4 year old retired stud that we purchased from what we believed to be a reputable breeder.(we later learnt from a pet store employee that another woman who came in also purchased a retired eb from the same breeder and was also having many issues).
Aside from my wife screaming on the phone at the breeders husband we'll get on with the story:
He's a damn good looking boy, very cute, an just overall handsome man. He's a sweetheart.
His issues:
-constant laboured panting.
-throwing up
-marking
-needs to be with you every moment(I'm sitting on the floor next to him typing this)

First three days were constant very laboured panting.he just couldn't catch his breath.We took him in, and although the breeder insisted it was only anxiety and normal bulldog behaviour, the vet mentioned if anxiety was the case he wouldn't be as social as he seems.The receptionist who owns eb's said his breathing is NOT NORMAL AT ALL for eb's .They were able to take a glance at his palette , and the vet said it's the longest she's ever seen.We were referred to a specialist in another city and he's booked for nostril,soft palette and nodes(?) surgery in 3 weeks. Trachea is good.
Would love to hear before after surgery stories.

He only eats in short spurts and vomits immediately, he didn't do this when he first came so I didn't tell the vet, but I'm wondering if it's just excitement(we fed him first thing in the morning after not seeing us all night). We are also transitioning his new food accordingly.
He's a little underweight though.

Everything else is healthy. No UTI, no heart issues,X-rays shown good.

Marking. He's marking everywhere in the house.I would LOVE to hear someone who has had success with this, everywhere on the web is advice but I could never find stories of someone who's gone through it and succeeded and shared.
He's unneutered and getting neutered when he gets his other surgery. Based on advice from my sister who's pug was marking; we have him on a 7 ft leash attached to a door so he learns not to mark in this area, and supposedly when he stops doing this we extend the leash to further the area and so on and so on, we take him out(when were with him) every 20 mins and praise when he goes. Yesterday he didn't pee once in this area,but this morning after taking him out and bringing him in he marked in the area(grabbed him took him out,praised him), than he did it again( grabbed him etc) than yet again. He hasn't marked in his crate yet though . And the belly bands are kinda useless, I'd rather clean up pee than have a pee stinky eb.
Would love to hear someone who's succeeded.

Any advice is appreciated.

I've adopted twice, Cami, my currant bully is a retired breeder and had
issues with peeing in the house, her crate & in my bed. And would regress
at times of change (2 moves) altho, I just moved AGAIN (Sigh!) and no
peeing!...I'm so proud She was 5 y/o when I got her and she'll be 7
this next May.

My 1st bully, Brutus was 4 or 5 and had many homes before I got him from
a Nurse who'd got him off CraigsList!!! Very sweet & handsome & so loving,
we bonded immediately, nothing wrong w/him at all but he also peed in the
house. With both bullies, I gave them time to adjust to me, new home and
my expectations. I stayed calm, patient and firm, making sure to praise ANY
effort at all (neither showed signs or made sound to tell they needed to potty,
this took awhile to teach them) and even after getting it, Brutus would pee on
anything left in his crate so I left it bare of towels, pads, etc. He also would
regress so just go right back to firm expectations, disagreeing w/pee or poop,
ignoring them, use ONE word or phrase for potty time, multiple trips at various
times of day/night to door you want them to use, saying the phrase and when
they DO potty, extravagant, over the top praise & highly valued treat (this can
stop once trained). Cami now will give one short, sharp bark if I fail to see her
at the back door, sometime I never thought she'd do...so proud of her! Just be
persistent & consistent, bullies are much smarter than people think but the key
is making them WANT to do something (treats & praise), scolding & shaming
does not work w/this breed (as a rule), taking away privileges (no getting on sofa,
bed, etc) ignoring them, crating (short times only) and/or confining to small spaces
work well.

It sounds like you've got good practices in place already, he's still adjusting too.
Neutering & surgery (he'll feel better) will help also. Please let us know how he is
afterwards, will keep him in prayer & y'all too...Welcome to EBN!

to EBN.... thank you for saving this baby and giving him a new loving home.

Palate sugery... I have been throw twice with my male EB and male Frenchie.... the procedures help with the breathing and make life easier for them but it does not eliminate all the issues. They may still snore or pant heavy at times, but it will be less stress on the heart and lungs. Small meals is standard for pups with the palate issue as it is hard for them to breath while eating.

As for being with you... that is normal Bulldog behavior, they LOVE their humans and always want to be with them... your shadow is best way to describe it. My male EB had to be touching me whenever he was with me... chin was on my foot, leg, arm, head, neck whatever he could reach at the time

He's a beautiful dog! Our Castor has just gone through nares plus soft palate surgery and received most helpful advice here. There was someone else asking about this kind of surgery yesterday, so let me just copy-paste my reply to that question here:

My Castor (1.5 years old) went through elongated soft palate surgery (and they also widened his nares) four days ago. I posted about his problems earlier this autumn when we had realized he was not doing well and we got lots of good advice and info: breathing issues

Thanks all for the advice, I will for sure post his update and pass on the much needed advice to this forum once I work through these issues as well. As for castor, you bet I've already read the stories before posting and will read them again!
If anything I'm excited for him,a chance to breath even just a little better he will be grateful for.

Like Christine said, bulldogs love being w/their human(s) and the fact that Dogen wants to be with you all the time seems normal to me. I wish you all the best with your new guy and do let us know how his surgery/procedures go.

About the marking... It could be that you have a dog with anxiety. This may be due to the new environment and would eventually correct itself when he gets more comfortable with his new surroundings, or this could be a set behavior in your dog.

I have a bichon frise who has bad separation anxiety issues. He marks specific spots in the house... the leg of the table right when you go in the front door, the threshold of the door from the laundry room (laundry has another door leading out to the garage), etc. And then when he couldn't find me (like when I accidentally close the bedroom door while I go take a shower, etc.), he would mark random places. He marks places as a way to feel more secure. Neutering may or may not solve this problem.

My bichon wears a belly band if I can't pay him attention. I made my own version that I line with a sanitary napkin, hah hah. Also, my bichon pees on command (I know, right?). So, when I take him outside to potty, I give him the command to pee several times until he goes dry (he lifts his leg and nothing comes out). But, these are just Band-Aid measures because what needs to be worked on is the anxiety... and... believe it or not, my dog's anxiety has lessened a whole lot after we got our 2nd bulldog, Angus. They're like Starsky and Hutch - always following each other around. So - it used to be that I have to crate the bichon when I leave the house. Otherwise, the house will look like a tornado hit it. But now, I don't even have to do that anymore as long as Angus is in the same room with him, he's been fine.

@DOGEN yes, Castor is so happy (and so are we!). Castor breathes so much better already and his scratching has actually almost stopped so we suspect it might have been stress-related rather than allergy-related. We'll see how things develop on that front.

Then when you give him food make sure HE SIT AND ITS VERY CALM.. Then give the food after 15-25min of eating take him outside have to wait till he pees best thing take him to the place you know were he pees and poops. Bring back in let him Rome around the house for 20 min back in the cage. I would let him stay there so he can fall asleep play with his toys after couple hrs take him straight outside pee first then a good 20min walk. Bring back inside if he drink water wait 15-20min go outside. Most important praise the dog a treat he love rub his bottom don't say his name just good boy yes yes yes.... Before u go to bed outside then back to the cage keep doing this I KNOW ITS ALOT but it works! Hope everything goes well!

Yes thanks, he usually takes care of both pee and poop on his walks, when I take him specifically to his pee spots in the backyard after eating, waking up etc ,his only mission is to eat snow. When I take him for walks his mission is to do his business. He's just weird.
Surgery in two days, I hope it helps, he has a constant craving to wrestle with me but I can't encourage it cuz his breathing is too laboured, so I'm excited for him.
