This is the story of Annie, who had an allergic reaction to kibble and
her mommy Karen switched her to raw diet and has not looked back.

Annie is my 5th bulldog in the last 20 years and I have always fed kibble. Through
my ignorance I believed that is all dogs ate. My last 4 bullys never had any problems
with allergies due to kibble, but always had tear stains and large amounts of very
    soft and smelly poops!

    Annie as a puppy

I got Annie at 12 weeks and she came to me on a Purina dog food that smelt
rotten, so I dread to think what it tasted like!! I changed her right away to
James Wellbeloved, which is a very good quality food, though not cheap. She
was fine on this kibble, but I read about fish

    Frequently Asked Dog Food Questions

Q: What should I be looking for in Dog Food when it comes to the English Bulldog Breed?

Learning how to read through the vague and horribly regulated dog food labels can be a chore. The front of your dog food bag has gorgeous cuts of steak, fresh fruits and vegetables..... and has a catchy healthy name like "Beneful". These foods make you, the consumer, believe that your are purchasing something really great for your dog! But flip that bag over, and look at the ingredients.

This dog food is one of thousands out there that are feeding you a LIE.

This dog food claims right on their website:

"Protein-rich nutrition, with real beef, to help build strong muscles"

    INGREDIENTS in Beneful Original Formula:
Ground yellow corn, chicken by-product meal, corn gluten meal, whole wheat flour, animal fat preserved with mixed-tocopherols (form of Vitamin E), rice flour, beef, soy flour, sugar, propylene glycol, meat and bone meal, tricalcium phosphate, phosphoric acid, salt, water, animal digest, sorbic acid (a preservative), potassium chloride, dried ...

    Dog Food Ratings
With thousands of dog foods on the market, how do you know which one to choose for your dog?

Our research on dog foods was done in April of 2010 and we are continuously adding new foods to our list. If you have a food that is NOT on our list, please send a personal message to cowsmom.

For even more information on dog food, visit our English Bulldog Nutrition Forum to see what food and health tips our members are using. Dog food brands are listed in alphabetical order according by star rating.

Keep in mind, these gradings are based upon ALL dog breeds. English Bulldogs are more prone to allergies and more sensitive to foods and ingredients such as high levels of protein than other dog breeds. Therefore, this is to be used strictly as a GUIDELINE for you to find a great choice for your bulldog. It will be trial and error unitl you find the perfect food, and a 4 star food may work better for your English Bulldog than a 6 star food.

Remember to always take time while switching foods. Add more of the new food to the current food you are feeding for a minimum of a week until they have made a complete switch.

Also note, we are not paid to say any dog food is better than the other! These ratings are based upon several factors. Ingredients, research, label reading, additives, vitamin content, cooking times, wikipedia, other online articles, and most of all member testimonials.

    Meet Horse Then:

"Horse says goodbye to his nickname"

For the first 4 years of Horse's life, I fed him beneful, dave's brand (multiple varieties), then eagle pack lamb and rice. He had earned the nickname "stinkhead". Horse's face always smelled really awful, it was red all the time. His eyes were always bloodshot and irritated, with constant eye boogers. Horse had what we called "chacne"-chin acne. ...

    Meet Samson Then:

Samson has severe allergies. Before, his face was always red and sore, and his paws were red and full of yeast from his constant licking. Sometimes he even bled in between his toes. His Mommy Tessa tried several foods and put Samson on the proper medications for his allergies.

Samson gets a twice daily antihistamine, atarax, that helps manage his allergies. ...

    Meet Molly Then:

Molly had horrible tear stains, yeast on her paws, was always itching and paw licking.

Molly had been fed Iams all of her life. Notice the yeast on her paws, bad tear stains, bad yeast infection under her rope wrinkle, she even had yeast on her tummy! Although we never had any health issues with her, one day she broke out into an allergic reaction to something. This allergy turned into a severe skin infection. The vet prescribed ...
