Jack's at the vet again under observation with an IV and a steroid shot. Wednesday morning he ate his food, was totally fine and then his morning stool was very loose. That evening he didn't seem to have much energy (and he's quite the energetic pup) and wouldn't eat his dinner. He's a light eater but that was our first red flag. His loose stools continued and Thursday morning and evening he wouldn't eat again and he wasn't drinking water. He also looked like he was in pain the way he was walking. Yesterday morning he was trembling a bit when I left for work and I had my cousin come by at lunch to check on him. He ate a bit of food but hadn't touched his water in his crate. I called the vet and left work to take him in where they did an x-ray and a fecal test. They gave me Flagyl to give to him for a possible intestnial infection. Last night's stool was loose and had a bit of blood in it. He was displaying every sign of having had digested a toy or a chunk of ball. He had a few pieces of a red freasbie in his stool so we were pretty confident that was it. Our senior dog had digested many things over the years and Jack had the same symptoms. Well fast forward to this morning and early this am he started whimpering and he was so hot to the touch. I took him in this morning and another x-ray didn't show anything. The tech said that when they were doing his x-ray that he's head was bobbly, not normal she said. The x-ray didn't show anything again and but the CBC blood test showed his white cell count is elevated - could be because he's a puppy or an intestinal infection. They're keeping him over night for observation. He couldn't even walk today he was so stiff and his back was arched which had me very alarmed.

Poor guy. As many of you know he's our rescue dog. We got him at 4 months old and he's almost 7 months now. He was so skinny his spine was showing. He was just gaining his weight and although thin he was looking good. He's skinny again.

I have no clue what's up with him and aside from a toy there's nothing in our yard that it could be that I can think of. Now what's weird is that around Monday Wilson all of a sudden really started sniffing his butt, like sniffing it.

The doc's going to call me this evening so hopefully there's more news. :(

Oh Jeannie..I haven't been on ALL day! I'm so sorry and worried for Jack. It sure sounds like a toy. BabyDuke went through a lot of these same issues when Duke ate a toy. The stiff back to me shows he's in pain. Sometimes extreme stress can elevate their blood count too. Our rottie had the elevated white cells when she was in extreme pain and it took 3 days and an animal specialty hospital to diagnose her problem. I bet Wilson knew..animals can sense so much. Please keep us informed. I'll keep you in my thoughts. Positive....

Oh, poor baby. It must be so hard on his tummy. I will pray for it to pass. At least he's on an IV, that helps to give him fluids. I had a cat who had very bad intestinal problems and she stayed at the vets for three days on an IV and she pulled thru and very healthy now.

Thanks everyone! I totally think Wilson knew. Dogs sniff that area and the smells tell them what's up, etc. It was just really excessive and I had to pry his nose out of Jack's butt. Being that Wilson is a coinsure of poop I was not so amused at the time.

Update so far: Additional x-rays show nothing so he hasn't swallowed anything. At 1 today his white cells were elevated and at 5 we got another call from our vet that they would like to transferred Jack to a critical care hospital (they do overnight stays but are not a 24 hour on-staff facility). They were afraid that during the night Jack might "CRASH" ":(. And he's showing signs of meningitis and/or a intestinal infection. He can no longer stand on his own L. We had to pick Jack up and take him to there - they unplugged his IV and we took that meds too. He was so limp it was all we could do to hold our tears back at that moment. Once at the critical care place they did another xray to make sure it wasn't his hips. Tomorrow morning he sees a specialist. They also gave him pain meds and we checked in on him before we left. He wagged his tail and gave me lots of kisses. He's just as sweet as can be and will be 7 months in another week. He's lost 3lbs since last Sunday. I'll keep everyone updated. Both me and the hubby are quite stressed and sad :(.

Awww..not the news I was hoping for. The specialty hospitals are amazing. I pray they will solve this mystery. How can a healthy guy get to here in such a short time? So hard on you guys and poor sweet Jack. He's young and in a good place. They will have answers I'm certain.

Not much of an update yet, but I called at 3:30 am just to check on him and his fever broke so that's good. He was drinking water but wanted nothing to do with food. We should know more in the next hour. It's just so weird. He was perfectly fine, and his normal very rambunctious sweet loving self until Wednesday morning.
