We discovered this week that Roxie seems to be allergic to her thyroid med  She was put back on it for about a week this time, and she was acting VERY odd… she was waking me up at all hours of the night (starting around 3am) wanting to go out, having accidents in the bedroom, very lethargic and then started throwing up. She did this the LAST time she took Soloxine… the vet is going to consult a specialist at UT w/her information & labs. I'm not sure what can be done about this one… I'll let you guys know when I hear something.

I swear this is NEVER ENDING… big fat SIGH!!! :gloom:

Aww that's terrible news. I hope the vets can figure out an alternative medication for Roxie. Poor girl and poor you, you can't seem to get a break with your babies. Sending hugs and prayers your way. I hope she feels better soon.

I'm sorry to hear this about Roxie. Did u notice these symptoms at all when she was off the med? or did they become more pronounced w/the med? lethargy is definitely evident with hypothyroidism but i'm not sure about the other sx's she's having. Hopefully this specialist will be of great help.

Wow. I hope you get to the bottom of it. If you don't get answers fro the folks at UT have them reach out to Texas A&M. They were the one who finally figured out what was wrong with one of my ridgebacks many years ago after 4 vets and 2 specialists couldn't.

You know it's weird Henny, I DID notice these symptoms when she was off the meds (except for the vomiting of course) but they seem worse on the soloxine. Here is another wrench in all of this… her arthritis. When the weather gets colder she has a hard time walking around. Cushings, thyroid and arthritis all have very similar symptoms… it's hard to know what the biggest issue is. She seems to be tolerating the vetoryl better now, but like I said every time we add the soloxine a couple of days later the vomiting starts up. I'm at a loss...

I asked my vet that question and she said no… I'm assuming that there are supplements that I could use. I'm not jumping on that bandwagon until we get the cushings under control. According to her labs she should be taking 120mg of vetoryl per day, but she's only on 90mg right now. She was having some issues w/it, and I told my vet I wanted to be conservative w/her dosage… slow and steady. Vetoryl is nothing to play around with, overdosing can have dire consequences.
