Our oldest cat, Woo, is so sick. We are not sure he will make it. We are doing everything we can but he is not eating or drinking. He is blocked. He got really really constipated and now he's body is shutting down. I have never had to deal with this before. He is my first pet. This is very hard trying to force feed a cat. Does any one have any experience with this?

My beloved Persian Stoli did this to us, he stopped eating and he stopped drinking. We took him to the emergency vet clinic, and they got him where he would eat and drink again. Immediately the next morning we took him to the vet, where we discovered the culprit was his kidneys. He was on special medication for the remainder of his life, and he passed on almost two years ago in May of 10.

If you have not, take your cat to his vet as soon as you can. Find out exactly what is wrong, at least they can get some fluid into him by IV if necessary. This is your best bet.

He has been at the vet' he was there for two and a half days. Just got him home yesterday. Still has not eaten. They did give him fluids and lots of enemas. They have not found the cause of the problems other than the constipation but not sure what caused that. He is not able to pee thou, and his bladder if very full because of the IV fluids. We are going back to the vet so they can teach us how to express his bladder. He really needs to eat, pee and poop on his own! Or we may lose him :(

So sorry your going through this. How old is Woo? It's hard when our pet babies are sick or in pain, eespecially when the cause isn't known, and the vet can't find the cause, and theybcantbtell us either what's wrong with them, or what they feel. I hope the vet can figure it out, and that there's a treatment that will help or fix it. My Jack Russell was 14 year sold, and at the end had cancer, but with extra care and lots of TLC she lived for a year more and then passed away 2 years ago. I hope Woo feels better soon, and all is okay. Please keep us posted on what the vet says. Take care

Our Woo kitty is 10 years old. The vet said he is a bit young to be have this sort of a problem. The blood test look good, no kidney problems. We just got back from the vet's we got shown how to express his bladder because he still has a very full bladder. However he is trying to go in the litter box and he did manage to go a little bit. We are so worried. :( He can not go on not eating and not pooping! He has to poop! We were able to get a small amount of food in him with a syringe so we will continue this often throughout the day and hopefully he will be able to push this through. We are going back t the vet tomorrow if not to get an x-ray to see if the stool has moved any since yesterday, then we will know where to go from there. They say they could do surgery tomorrow if necessary but I not sure we want o do that. Money is a huge factor there, they quoted us 2,500$ for the surgery. Plus, there is no guarantee that the surgery will fix the cause of the problem. :( We are just hoping he can poop :(

I'm so very sorry that Woo is so sick and will pray it resolves ASAP.

My cat, CoCo Chanel is 13 y/o and was only sick ONE time when she
had a reaction to Frontline Flea treatment, I almost lost her.

I had to get the large syringes from Walmart and had to syringe water
and food into her for 5 days. I think I added pedialyte into a bland, canned
food they feed newborns, I'll try to remember the name and let you know.

May GOD's strength & comfort flow into you as you go thru this worry.

Thank you @porkysmamma , he is on 3.5 ml of lactolose three times a day. if it works as good as you say it does that poop is going to come flying out! haha LOL! :p I don't know about the enema thing at home. They have given him many at the vets so far. They did teach us how to express his bladder because he is still not peeing much, but we couldn't seem to get a flow going. I will have to take him back in tomorrow to get the vet to do it I think.

Lol idk if it was just her but for the first week on it she was making a hugeeeeeeee mess or her tidy box n would stand there meowing for me to get her n wash her up!!!! Yeah they r touchy I hated it but being 20 (at the time) going to the vet stressed her out so much :( I felt bad enough I just did it myself!!!! I hope Woo feels better n things get better!!!! ill run whats going on with him by Buddahs vet tomorrow (they are GI specialists so they may have a better idea) :)

Awwww I'm so sorry. Being a big kitty lover I have been in your shoes a few times. My oldest kitty lived to be 20 years old. I'm still amazed when I think of her. And until the end of her life she was never sick. Last year we lost our big orange tabby George. He was a huge fellow and found us after his a**hole family moved away and left him! :cursing: he was well on in years but lived a great life with us for about 8 years after he became ours. He did have a bunch of health issues including diabetes. During our time together, I learned just how hard it is for vets to properly diagnose cats. Often it's a hit and miss process and can get very frustrating. I'm not quite sure why I'm rambling on about this. Just wanted you to not give up..and I will so be hoping your sweet baby snaps out of this.

What are you feeding Woo? Most constipation issues start with being dehydrated,
cats do not drink enough, I've switched my cat to wet 2 years ago because it has
more water content, also go grain free and no tuna (too much mercury) or fish
flavored food, wet or dry (those preservatives are hard on their organs). Water
packed sardines are good a couple of those a couple times a week. Also, some cats
will drink more from a constant running source, you can buy those fountains at Pets
Mart, Walmart, etc I know this sounds weird but some cats prefer their water source
away from their food source!

Organic, cold pressed aloe juice (the drinkable juice) is a natural, gentle laxitive, you can
add 1/4 teasp to mixture of watered down food you are syringing into Woo safely. Add
to his food after he heals, couple times a week. Aloe Juice will also help the inflammation
in his stomach, bladder & possibly pancreas, to go down. Later on, if he won't eat wet then
add water to his dry but again, go grain free! Still praying!!

We WERE feeding him Max cat dry food and once a day wet Wellness cat food. (which is grain free) the vet gave us some Royal Canin to feed to him it's a high calorie food. We never feed him fish flavored food, makes there poop stink worse. The vet says he will never be able to eat dry food again. He has two water dishes at this time we did have one of those fountains, we got from a garage sale but it made a lot of noise, so I took it down. I should get a nice one made of stainless steel. I will try the Aloe juice, will go to the the natural food store and get it in the morning. Thanks for the tips. We are trying everything we can right now.

Lactulose is good! Have they checked for mega colon? If he gets too dehydrated you may have to have the vet show you how to give sub q fluids. Hang in there, you will get better at expressing the bladder.
