Meet sweet Sugar! Sugar came to IBR after being dropped off at a shelter, and didnā€™t waste a second letting us know how grateful she was to be in a loving home! When Sugar first came into her foster home she was pretty stressed with all of the changes sheā€™s been through the last few days. She had an upset tummy. The vet treated her with some medication to make her feel better. Whoever adopts her needs to have patiences for a couple of days to help her work through the adjustment of moving to a new family.
She is sweet to everyone ā€“ kids, other dogs and even the cat ā€“ just like sugar! She loves to play ball tetherball and she plays soccer. She loves to sleep with her foster brother and sister in the people bed at night, but does well sleeping in a gated area of the house as well. She loves to be with people and stays close by her foster mom at all times. She does love to snuggle with her foster family on the couch. Her tongue is too big for her mouth and is always hanging out. She loves to tease you with her toys and play keep away. Sugar is very gentle and loves children and all her foster bully brothers and a sister. She even likes the resident cat. She is gaining weight and looks very healthy again.

Sugar is back with IBR. Many of you may recall that Sugar originally came to IBR In the Fall of 2017 after being pulled from a shelter in pretty rough shape. Her foster family nursed her back to health and helped Sugar learn to live the life sheā€™s always deserved.

This adorable girl has now been through professional training and she has learned to wait for her food, wait at the door and walk well on leash. She is also 100% house and crate trained! Sugar needs a calm and consistent home without children as she is is leery of strangers and fast movements.

Sugar needs a family that will be patient during her adjustment of going into a new forever home. She can be nippy and yippy during the first couple of days during a transition. But she will be laying next to you on the couch binge watching your next Netflix Series or cuddled up with you in your bed once she knows you can be trusted to provide her with lots of treats, balls, food and walks. Sugar is protective of her balls when it comes to other pets, but she loves to play with a Wobble Ball in the house or play with a basketball, yoga ball in the yard. Her favorite toy is a tetherball and she will show her undying love and appreciation if her new family would make her one in her back yard to get additional exercise she loves and craves. Besides, it is the best entertainment in the world to sit and watch this girl demonstrate her skills at the pole!!!

Like many dogs, Sugar is very protective of her home and family. She is not fond of strangers coming in her home and can be protective if she thinks someone my hurt a family member. So all visitors and strangers should be instructed to not reach to pet her. She has never bitten anyone, but gives a quick warning by nipping. This is why we do not recommend children in the home. She shows no interest in cats whatsoever in her foster home. She ignores the cats in the house and during walks in the neighborhood. Sugar does *not* ignore passing cars, bicyclist, squirrels or rabbits, so she must be under leash control when not in a fenced in yard. Sugar does fine sleeping in her peopleā€™s bed or in her very own crate. She goes into her crate very willingly.

Sugar is a pretty easy bulldog to care for. She loves her grooming, such as ear cleanings and daily wiping of her facial folds. She does not have a corkscrew tail so no hard maintenance to deal with on that end of her. She loves to have her teeth brushed and I recommend a least few times a week, if not once a day, because just like her people she will get halitosis if you do not give them a good brushing often. She does not show any signs of skin allergies and the only regular meds she takes is for preventing fleas ticks and heartworm. Sugar does have some arthritis in her back knees and we do give her natural supplements to help. Sugar is an active dog and walks a couple miles a day with her foster brother in early mornings and late evenings when it is not hot.

We know that Sugarā€™s happily ever after is out there and we canā€™t wait to help her find it!
