BIO:

Libby was surrendered to IBR when her family became overwhelmed with her allergy issues and could no longer afford to give her the care she deserves. She has had allergy testing done and it has been determined she is allergic to grass. Her skin is inflamed all over, her toes are swollen and her ears are infected. We will help this sweet girl get healthy and find a new home.

DECEMBER UPDATE: Libby is settling in to her foster home well. She loves the kids in her home, is house and crate trained and is just an incredibly sweet and happy girl. She is slowly being introduced to the other dogs and cats in the home.

Libby has had her initial vetting and was started on prednisone to give her some relief from her inflamed skin, but this cannot be a long-term cure for her due to the side effects. She also has dry eye, her eyes produce no tears at all. She will need to have eye ointment applied twice a day for the rest of her life.

Since Libby's previous family had allergy testing done and we know what she is allergic to, she has been started on allergy injections. These will start with being administered every three days until we can get her down to a maintenance dose, hopefully every two weeks or even once a month. Even while getting allergy injections, she may still have allergic flare-ups, requiring medicated baths and additional medications.

JANUARY UPDATE: Libby is still undergoing allergy shots every 3 days. She is doing fair with this treatment. Her skin is still very red, inflamed and itchy. Her foster mom helps keep her comfortable with frequent medicated baths. She is so good for her baths!

The frequency of Libby's allergy injections will be decreased at the end of the month to see how she does. However, the injections will continue to be necessary for the rest of her life. Her potential adoptive family will need to be comfortable giving the injections at home.

Outside of the allergy issues, Libby is a very sweet, loving, affectionate girl. She is working on her socialization skills with other dogs. She did not have much practice with this previously, so when she meets other dogs she doesn't really know what to do. She has gone to a few IBR events and hasn't been a big fan of dogs approaching her. But she is learning quickly in her foster home with her two French Bulldog foster sisters and has even started romping and playing a little.
