Lilly came to IBR after being dropped off at Indianapolis Animal Care & Control in really bad shape. She was clearly used for breeding, covered in fleas, filthy dirty and in obvious need of immediate vet care. IBR sprung into action, pulled her out of the shelter and took her to one of our wonderful parter vets, Parkside Animal Hospital in Fishers, where they stayed open after hours to help.
After an exam and X-rays, the vet determined Lilly had pyometra, a very serious and often deadly uterine infection. Lilly stayed the night at the hospital and underwent surgery first thing the following morning. During the procedure, the doctor also removed a very irregular looking softball sized tumor in her left ovary. A piece of the tumor was sent to the lab for testing and it is likely it was malignant. However, all of Lilly's reproductive organs were removed during the procedure and the doctor is confident she is free from any infection or cancer.
After one more precautionary night in the hospital , Lilly finally got to go to her new foster home. Currently, she is doing a lot of resting and recovering. She spends most of her day on her dog bed enjoying all of her foster brothers' bones and toys!
Lilly is nothing but sweet to her foster mom. She LOVES attention, and when her foster mom says her name you can see her face light up! Given all that she has gone through in the last week, she hasn't met her foster brothers yet so it is unknown how Lilly gets along with other dogs. But we do know for sure she loves people.
Lilly is crate trained and has not had an accident in her crate. She has had a few accidents in the house, but the better she feels the less frequent those accidents are. Lilly also suffers from dry eye in both eyes and will require Optimmune drops twice a day, likely for the rest of her life.
I'VE BEEN ADOPTED!
