Leonard is still adjusting to his new foster home. But he is a happy go lucky, sweet, loving boy! He wants nothing more than to please his people. He has not been introduced to the other dogs in his foster home yet but doesn't seem overly aggressive hearing and seeing them through baby gates. He does go kind of crazy with squeaky toys and may have some toy hoarding tendencies.
Leonard has had his initial vetting and will need double entropian surgery. At that time, the vet will also x-ray his hips and knees because he does seem to have some mobility issues. We will know more after x-rays, but he may need to have surgery on hips and/or knees as well. But he's heartworm negative, up to date on all shots and doesn't seem to have any other health issues.
Eye surgery and x-rays are currently scheduled for April 3rd, and we will update on his condition as we know more and he gets accustomed to his new life as a foster bullie.
MAY UPDATE: Leonard's orthopedic vet has determined that he has severely luxating patellas, or "floating kneecaps," in both of his back legs. On a scale of 1 to 4 with 4 being the worst, both of his knees are rated a 3. They just cannot support him the way they are supposed to, which causes him to scoot on his hind end across the floor, or if he does walk he has to put all the weight on his front legs which causes problems with his back.
So, Leonard will be needing double knee surgery to help him be able to move like a normal one year old bullie boy. The knee surgeries will be done one at a time, with at least 8 weeks recovery after each one. The first surgery is scheduled for May 20th.
Despite all this, Leonard is still a loving, happy boy. He loves to give kisses and get attention from his people. He does run and play for short periods of time, but tires easily. When he gets really excited, he's been known to "get fresh" with people, despite already being neutered. He's just a young exuberant boy.
JULY UPDATE: Leonard has adapted very well to his foster home, getting along great with his canine and human foster brothers. He is a sweet boy who loves his kong, treats and cuddling with his foster family.
Leonard had the first of his two knee surgeries in May to fix a floating kneecap and torn ACL on his left knee. It went very well and he is recovering nicely with the help of water treadmill physical therapy and laser therapy twice a week. He is still on exercise restriction until his 8 week recheck around the end of July. Once he is fully recovered from the first surgery, he will have the same procedure done on his right knee and have to recover all over again.
Despite all this, Leonard is still a loving, happy boy. He loves to give kisses and get attention from his people. After the surgeries are complete and he has healed up, he will be able to be the young, exuberant bullie boy he was meant to be.
Leonard will need a lot of sponsors for his medical care. He will need entropion on both eyes as well as x-rays and possible knee/hip surgery before he is ready for adoption.
