BIO:

Please welcome Ellen to IBR! She is a 2 year old female who was born without eyes.

Ellen is blind, possibly hearing impaired and missing half of one of her ears. Her mother bit her ear off when she was a pup. She is scared and confused right now and trying to get a hang of what this "rescue" thing means for her. This sweet girl has had a rough start to her life, but she will live like a princess from now on.

As Ellen gets to know her foster mom and is fully vetted, we will share more!

JANUARY UPDATE: Ellen has truly been IBR's Christmas miracle! She came in with pneumonia and hadn't eaten in 2 weeks. We were a day away from having to make a quality of life decision. Ellen had spend almost a week in the hospital on IV antibiotics and fluids before she finally started showing improvement.

Since then, she has come through the pneumonia, has started eating 3/4 cup of food two times a day, is pooping and peeing normally (outside, we might add -- she still has some accidents in her crate, but she spent her entire life before in a crate, it was all she knew).

When she first arrived at her foster home, her poor little bones and joints popped and cracked like walking on sticks in the woods. She still pops a little when she stretches out her legs, but not nearly like before. She has some joint abnormalities but she can still get around pretty good and has even started getting curious about the yard and inside the house.

Ellen's foster mom and everyone at IBR is very pleased with her improvements! She has found her will to live and now knows there is a different way of life than what she was used to before.

Ellen will require a very special and patient forever family to deal with her physical malformations and blindness, but she is soooo sweet! She is still not quite ready for adoption, as she will need to be reevaluated after her current round of antibiotics to determine the next steps for her health.
FEBRUARY UPDATE: Ellen's foster mom is thrilled to share that she is doing great! She has completed all of her meds and we are waiting to hear next steps from the vet as far as getting spayed so she can be made available for adoption.

Ellen continues to get more and more curious about her surroundings. She is SO brave! She doesn't mide bumping into things and she learns and remembers her surroundings very quickly. She can navigate her area of the house quite well. She loves to feel the sun on her face, whether outside or by a window. She will probably never be a "walking/strolling" dog, but she is quite content with short outside breaks and being in the house.

Ellen will make a great companion and will enjoy the company of her family. So far, she hasn't shown any interest in toys, but that is still a new concept for her. She does enjoy snuggling with her teddy bear. She doesn't chew bones or the like. Her foster mom has introduced some soft apple/banana treats as well as dehydrated banana chips, but has to help put the treat in Ellen's mouth and sort of help her keep it in while she chews it. Her jaws are misaligned.

Ellen is quite protective of her hind end. She will get growly and panicky when wipes are used or if that area is washed during bath time. She also seems to have panic attacks in the car and will thrash around. Her foster mom has found she rides much more securely and safely in a travel crate.

Ellen would like to thank everyone for their prayers and well-wishes during her recovery, along with their donations and sponsorships! She is evidence of the power of prayer and the mission of IBR.

Ellen will require a very special and patient forever family to deal with her physical malformations and blindness, but she is soooo sweet! She is still not quite ready for adoption, but we will keep everyone updated on her progress.

JULY UPDATE: Ellen continues to do well and hasn't had to go to the vet for being sick since March! She was losing a little weight, but it seems to have been just because she has been more active and needed to eat more. She continues to inspire and make friends everywhere she goes.

Ellen would make a wonderful companion as she has such a sweet spirit about her. She doesn't really require toys or chew things, long walks or rigorous play. She does require a family that will be sensitive to when she needs to go outside. She will only be as housebroken as her family sees her "spinning" or about to squat. She also requires a soft, snuggly bed.

It is very important to "talk" to Ellen about her surroundings, encourage and direct her as she walks. This makes her feel safe and enables her to be so brave. Even with her special needs it is impossible not to fall in love with her as soon as you meet her.

AUGUST UPDATE: Ellen continues to get stronger and more confident. She wins the hearts of everyone that meets her, just ask the band American Authors. They spent some special time with Ellen and several other IBR fosters and alums recently.

Ellen does not like to lose touch with the ground for very long, so she currently will not ride in a wagon or stroller as she has panic attacks. She does ok travelling by car in her crate.

Even though Ellen will need an extra special family to assist with her special needs, she is very deserving of all the love and attention that a forever home can provide. She does well with kids and dogs as long as they understand she may bump into them or loud sounds may startle her until she learns they are part of her environment, such as the dryer buzzer.

Ellen currently eats Earthborn Holistic Large Breed (even though she's not large) because it contains glucosamine along with a supplement and treats that contain it as well.

Please consider adopting Ellen if you have lots of love to give. You will receive blessings in return.
