Welcome Maggie to IBR! Maggie is a very sweet, mild-mannered 2 year old who will require a very special forever home. Maggie could not be any sweeter and gets along well with other dogs and kids. She is very petite, only weighing 25 lbs. Maggie loves to go on walks and take long naps on her bed. Her energy level is fairly low and she has shown no signs of aggression toward anything.
Maggie is incontinent and leaks urine. Similar to IBR perma-foster Marley, Maggie had a surgery at Purdue to try and prevent the incontinence and leaking. Unfortunately, the procedure did not work and had to be reversed. Maggie takes 25mg of Proin three times a day to help with the leakage. The vet will re-evaluate her in several weeks to see how well the Proin is working for her and if another medication should be added to provide additional relief.
When Maggie is awake and walking around, you cannot notice her incontinence, but when she is asleep and her muscles are relaxed, she will leak. Maggie wears a diaper and is not bothered by it. While the diaper keeps the urine from leaking on her bed and the floor, the diaper has to constantly be changed and Maggie needs cleaned multiple times each day.
Check back for more updates as Maggie continues to adjust to her foster home and evaluated by her vet.
FEBRUARY UPDATE: Maggie continues to be a very sweet girl and has adjusted to life in her foster home very well. She is incredibly sweet to everyone she meets and is fine with other dogs and children of any age. She is still somewhat timid at first around new people, especially men, but warms up quickly. As she gets more comfortable, more and more of her funny little personality comes out.
Maggie just finished another round of antibiotics for a UTI. Unfortunately, given her condition, UTI's are something she will mostly likely battle her entire life. The vet has added Estrogen to the Proin Maggie was already taking to see if it will help with her urine incontinence. So far, her foster mom has not seen much improvement but will follow up with the vet at her next appointment.
Because of her condition, Maggie requires constant care. She takes 1.5 Proin tablets three times a day, one Estrogen pill a day, her diaper needs changed and her backside wiped every time she wakes up, her bedding has to be washed several times a week and she gets a bath 2-3 times a week as well. Despite all of this, Maggie is a great sport and lets her foster mom take good care of her.
