2/19/15: Please welcome Winnie! Winnie was surrendered to the Charleston Animal Society because her family stated they could no longer care for her. Winnie is an Olde English Bulldog and weighs about 66lbs. Winnie is spayed, current on vaccines, and heartworm negative. Her right eye was removed.
Winnie did come into rescue with many medical needs and concerns. She is missing many teeth. She has several benign adenomas at trunk and hyper playsia of mammary tissue of nipples, and umbilical hernia. Winnie has a very yeasty smell and with a combination of a yeast skin infection and infection of the skin caused by fleas. She also has yeasty ear infections.
Winnie will be quarentined at Martinez Animal Hospital for the next 10 days and will undergo surgery to remove all the benign growths, as well as to fix the hernia. She will also receive medicated baths to heal her skin and cleaning of her ears while under there care for the next 2 weeks.
Update 2/25/15: Winnie had surgery on yesterday to have her hernia repaired and 2 growths removed. The hernia was an easy fix the vet stated. One of the growth was a fatty growth and benign. The 2nd growth was sent off to a laboratory for further testing. Winnie is recovering from surgery just find and will be releasing from the vets office on 2/28/15 and will return back to the vets office to have staples/stitches removed on March 9, 2015. Volunteers have been visiting her daily at the vets office have stated that she is extremely sweet, friendly, and has a very laid back temperament.
Update 2/28/15: Winnie checked out of Martinez Animal Hospital today and moved into her foster home as she recovers from her surgeries. Vet stated we should have the results of her growths that were sent off to a laboratory back with in the next 2-weeks. Her skin is already showing improvements from the medicated baths that she received while at the vets office. She will continue to receive medicated baths for the next 30 days- 2 times a week along with oral medications. Winnie has a very sweet temperament.
Update 3/12/15: Martinez Animal Hospital called today and stated that all of Winnies tumors and growths were benign. Winnie has settled into her foster home and loves all the special attention and affection she is receiving. Foster parents have noticed that Winnie does not get along with other dogs. Winnie is dog aggressive so it would be best that Winnie be placed in a home with no other animals and she be the only dog. Winnies skin is healing nicely.
