I too was a miserable patient as a child. If you ask my Mom, she never would have thought I would end up in the field. I love it and really was planning on Dental School but divorced with two little boys, hygiene was a more economical degree.

Dentistry has come a long way. If you have fears, ask around, word of mouth is the best for knowing the dentists chairside manners. Use Nitrous to get through it, eventually you can wean yourself off of the need. Start slow. The biggest thing, get your preventative done and often. It is harder and more expensive when you are in pain. Remember this: if you never change your cars oil then eventually it will cost you much more money and destroy the car faster.

Preventive is the key!!! Never too late to start.
Okay this is my public service announcement for the day. LOL You can love your dentist!

"Word of Mouth"... Yes..I had nitrous for years..but was able to trust my dentist after many years..sadly he passed two years ago and now I am struggling with a nice young dentist that has taken over his practice..he is very good and funny..which I need..but he doesn't do anything that is tricky..he sends his patients out to specialists and I'm scared of specialists...

I had a bunch of things done to me as a child (headgear, braces, retainers, teeth pulled, you name it) but they were all great! I guess I got lucky. I don't mind going to the dentist at all :)

I feel for you with the wisdom tooth. Mine didn't come in until I was in my 20's and I have had three pulled at different times when they started to give me trouble. One cracked and that was TERRIBLE. Good luck and hope you can get it to feel better for the weekend!

I went and got it removed and it really didn't hurt. It was more sore than anything. I got the left ones out about 6 years ago and I didn't really remember if it was really painful or not so I was kinda scared about getting the top right one done. They didn't put me under or anything just gave me those shots in my gums to numb it. That was probably the most painful part. I can't take pain pills cuz they make me sick, doesn't matter what it is, so I just took a couple of advil and I was good!! The bottom right one is still there but its not bothering me so I think ill keep it lol for now lol. Good luck on getting urs out!! Stock up on pudding!! :)
