Anybody remember the wartime movie starring Richard Gere called Yanks??
Well it was filmed locally to me in the mid 70's in and around a number of small Saddleworth Villages.

For the last 10 years or so we have enjoyed 1940's Wartime weekends called "Yanks Weekend" in celebration of this film and the 2nd world war.
I am looking forward to going this year it will be my first time in ages as I am usually working.

This is just some of the stuff going on :)

Saddleworth takes a step back in time to the war-torn 1940s from August 12th to August 14th 2011 for the 10th anniversary celebration of the Yanks are Back in Saddleworth event, known in the past as the wartime weekend.

The event brings a wide selection of fabulous 1940’s entertainment, historical displays and much much more. At the military vehicle encampment at Saddleworth School in Uppermill and in the Delph and Dobcross villages of Saddleworth you can explore a huge selection of :

military vehicles,

funfair,
exhibitions,
jive dance demonstrations,
American classic cars,
1940's bring and buy sale,
