It's ok Manydogs. I have my "Senior" moments all the time. It's understandable.

    Good Morning,

We have a 2 and 1/2 month old puppy and we are wondering if this is common. Early in the morning his poops are solid and then as the day progresses on, its becomes more runny. I am wondering if we need to switch his food or if this is pretty common with puppies? He eats Blue Buffalo Puppy and we feed him about 3 times a day.

@Oldhamracing Has your puppy been checked for worms? If not, he should be. Also the problem could be that you are giving him too much food. How much is he getting at each meal? I am sure others will recommend more alternatives. Thank you for joining

He hasn't yet, but he is going to the Vet on Friday. We give him about a 1/3 cup 3 times a day. Sometime we feed him 1/2 cup in the morning because he acts starve and is growing. Its weird because its more solid in the morning and then gets runny as the day goes on. Some days its solid the other days more runny.

Add some pumpkin purée. 1tablespoon per day. The organic one n 100% pumpkin. NOT the ones for pies. It’s full of fiber n will help stabilize the intestines. Old saying, if the plumbing don’t work, the whole body won’t either.

Thank you so much I will try that. I hate to switch his food up since that is what his breeder had him on.

Such a little pup goes out many times per day, of course, and will eat three times per day, but we see largely the same pattern in Castor who is 7.5 yrs old and only eats twice per day (brunch and dinner). There is definitely a correlation between the number of hours since he last ate and what comes out of him.

I’m not a fan of Blue Buffalo as its contracted out n often has recalls. If it’s kibbles I’m for Acana single protein. When you do single protein, it’s easier to monitor allergies “IF” any as after each bag you rotate the protein, empty bag n so on. That’s the best age to build the immune system. Do feed chicken! Lots of people are afraid of feeding chicken. Feed it especially while they are that age. Their bodies gets use to it n can eat anything after that. I’ve raised all my dogs with chicken as pups n not one had chicken allergies nor none have allergies. The more different kinds of protein you introduced within the first year, the better. Why I also suggest rotations after each bag. Don’t mix as you won’t know what will trigger IF they do have an allergy. Baby steps as we say. That being said, if you can go raw, you’ll definitely not go wrong.
