Increase in littering around the neighbourhood

I've noticed over the years living in Toronto that people are littering more and more, and are less and less likely to keep their streets clean. And I live in a quiet suburban neighbourhood. There's always been people been letting their dogs poo on public and private grass without picking up, but now it's accelerating. I've had to call the city a couple of times to get large objects removed like a free standing basket ball hoop and bags of rubbish that people are throwing in public spaces near me. Cars are constantly throwing cups of coffee from Starbucks and Tim Hortons and bags of fast food onto the street. The garbage cans at the parks and even at the gas station are overflowing with garbage. And tonight someone even hung a bag of dog poo in an Amazonbasics bag on a tree across from my house. Whatever happened to community spirit? Is anyone else facing that?

There seems to be no respect for anything, anywhere anymore. The change in this world is shocking and sad.

It's horrible here because we are in a rural area... even in our neighborhood!!! You should see the empty lots, people throw tires, old mattresses... it's unreal!!!

But where do you go? The only places in the world that are clean that I know of are Singapore and Japan.

YES!! I live on a cul-de-sac and at the end of it is a protected wetland. The fence is broken now and someone threw an old chair away as if it a dump. Here's a picture, I am two houses down so look at it every time I go out front. I called the City since it is technically City property and a service request has been put in for them to come get it. I am absolutely furious that someone would just dump it there. People are so annoying.

Same where I am... so sad. Trash, junk litter the taps and open spacesā€” heck even open spaces are becoming rare. GOD forbid a parcel of land remain undeveloped and wildlife exist in the area.

Really breaks my heart at times

Itā€™s simply education. When I was working with teenagers, I would watch them during lunch hours through my office windows. They would go to the corner get McDonaldā€™s or some junk food like that, sit all together on the grass n eat. Massive garbage bins everywhere. You would think they would throw their garbage n bottles in the big bins? Hell no! To damm hard to walk 10ā€™. So we would call them litterbugs on the intercom n have them pick up their garbage with the janitors. Funny when you think of it. These are todayā€™s kids ready to protest for climate change n yet are a big part of the polluters.

We plan to move to Oak Island NC...it's clean and quiet and the people there are awesome! Fishing is great, beaches are wide and not crowded, COL is low. Lala and MINI love it there.

Similar development here and I guess this has to do with a totally different life style today compared to only a generation or two ago. When I grew up, people kept their furniture and belongings for life and there was not such a wide range of products readily available everywhere, nor all those disposable cups, etc. The only fast food places here were hot dog stands and there were no such things as take-away coffee. If you bought coffee, you would sit down at a cafe and drink out of a proper porcelain cup, whereas these days, many people seem to be drinking and eating on the go. Life is more hectic, there is perhaps no parent at home fixing dinner so kids tend to eat out, and the sheer availability of consumer goods leads to an increase in waste. Hopefully, a growing awareness of environmental issues will lead to an increased focus on sustainability among producers as well as consumers.

And, yes... what dog owners don't pick up after their dogs...makes my blood boil too! Castor and I sometimes walk along a street with a nice strip of grass and birch trees - really nice place if it wasn't for the fact that there is poop in the grass every day. This is in a posh central location, and right outside a preschool. Once I talked to a dog owner who was so angry with the state of that place that he and his family had renamed that street Sh-t Street!

cefe13. Ohhhhh I love my porcelain cups!!! I cannot stand mugs. Needs to be thin. I recall going to England for the first time visiting my British family. Their tea was served in a mug n it was Tetley tea!!! They ruined my vision of British drinking out of fancy teacups. :(

Red Rose has less pesticides than Tetley Tea in Canada. I only buy Red Rose now.

Oak Island sounds great ! I love bulldogs but I don't know if I'll be able to own any in the future due to arthritis and sciatica. I'm going to be retiring in a couple years- haven't decided what to do yet. I definitely want to try out a few cruises and see if that life suits me, eg. Alaskan cruise, Panama cruise. My daughter lives in Mistake on the Lake ( Cleveland ) and my wife's from England, so I have a lot of possibilities. I love Victoria, B.C. but cost of living there is very expensive with all the taxes the socialist government in B.C. has introduced for property owners. Canada is only habitable in the winter in Southern Ontario and southern B.C. LOL helsonwheels knows what I'm talking about.

I lived in white rock BC..To die for! And BC stands for Bring Cash! This island is expensive so is Vancouver main island on the west side. Not so bad prices on the island would be nanamio. On the main island/province Maple Ridge, Surrey, Burnaby is nice n that too not so bad in house prices. BC Vancouver thereā€™s NO winter!!!! Lakes, oceans, everything is just there. Groceries I would say same price as anywhere in Canada. Just the houses, insurances are expensive. All that said, itā€™s very expensive to live in Canada. A bit like the Switzerland. Iā€™ve been to Cleveland for a few weeks and if youā€™re from TO, it wonā€™t be for you. England is absolutely beautiful. But you think BC is expensive? Pffft worst in UK. Outskirts of TO you will find beautiful places. sarnia, Clearwater are great cheaper places. The big hit nowadays is along the ocean NS. You can but a few acreage for under 250- 300K along the ocean. But yes winters are long but beautiful. I use to be a mortgage broker here in AB... Why I know the hotspots. Oh wait...just hit me, still great prices in BC is Radium Hot Springs. Buy there if you want to be in BC. Quiet n tourist n B&B are making tons of money.
