So I'm a total newbie to the gardening world, but I have an awesome terrace that I am intent on making into my own city oasis. So far so good, I've planted herbs (basil, sage, rosemary, oregano, and mint!) as well as some pretty perennials. My dahlia bulbs have started to sprout which I'm very proud of.

I also bought some patio furniture from Ikea (yeah, from the devil, I know, but it was so cheap...) that I need to assemble. Aaaaand I have lights to hang.

Sorry to make you look at pictures of flowers and not Bulldogs! [emoji13]

Well now Missy, good job! I grow my own herbs cause I started a pesto business. Get yourself some terracotta pots and plant yourself, peppers, tomatoes, zucchinis and make it climb, lettuce and more. Your puppies will love fresh veggies. I give Nyala fresh carrots, red bell pepper and loves it. :)

I thought about trying vegetables, but wanted to make sure my aloe plants survived first. [emoji13] is now a good time to plant tomatoes? Or did I miss planting season? [emoji848]

You're on the east side. Usually its around mother's day (2nd week of may) or if it's been cold end of May that is if you buy the already big. Since you're on a patio, buy them already big with flowers. Go to Costco as they already have like 3 in a big pot for 15 $ here in Canada. Im sure it's cheaper in US. Watch the wind on upraises (patios) as you can get wind burns on your leaves. And remove all suckers as we call them that grows in the V of 2 branches. Little new growth, pinch it out. Thats for tomatoes only. I always grew at least 2 grape tomatoes. Tiny. My GS and I would walk around the garden while I was deweeding and eat them. Was just for us 2. Now will do it with Nyala. She's home cooked im sure she'll like it. If not more for me lol. Your dogs might enjoy them too. Yellow ones has less acidity. :)

What a great space (and what a view!) and great idea with planters on legs! Weather looks fine too!

We have been fixing our very small garden too (was a mess when we moved in last year) and I now have some raised garden beds, but they are more like wooden boxes on the ground, and Castor has already demonstrated how easy it is to jump into them. Haven't planted anything in them yet because it's too cold. Way too cold - I was hoping for a warm spring and now have the house full of tomatoes, sweet peas, and other plants that I sowed and was hoping to plant outdoors but winter came back and at least the sweet peas are starting to look desperate!

Being Swedish  I too wonder why IKEA would be the devil?! ;)

gorgeous! I had many patio gardens until we bought our house. Our favorites were all the herbs you mention, but especially basil parsley and cilantro, because I cook with them constantly. Tomatoes and peppers will also do great on a patio, but get deep pots and bury half the plant when you buy them (trust me). water water and more water...and keep the squirrels away! it will be awesome!
