I can't believe it is almost here and we are starting to pack things up and get all the rabbits ready to head to the Houston Livestock Show starting on Friday. It's crazy all the crap we have to pack and take with us to support these little guys, so I guess this is how it must feel heading to dogs shows..... I am so looking forward to this as it has been many many years since I have been involved with the actual show itself. It may be long days ahead but they will be fun long days...

Horse shows are so much easier to deal with than this... lol

Thank you.

The babies are beautiful and we think she has a real shot at placing top 30 or higher. Regardless the experience for her is going to be worth it.

Good luck Todd! Just to be clear we're showing the rabbits not cooking them right?

:w00t: Please say you are just kidding about that last line!

What will the judging be based on, besides looks, Todd? I'm not familiar at all with these "livestock shows" so I'm curious. Do the bunnies have to do anything special?

Sadly no I am not kidding. These are bread and raised specifically for meat production so after the show they will be sold at auction. Which is why the classification for the event is called meat pen. They don't have to do anything other than look like triplets and have to meet specific weight standard and be drug tested. Same goes for all of the steers, heifers, goats, lambs, pigs, chickens and turkeys that will be there.

The judges are looking for uniformity between the babies in weight, shape and color based on standards similar to those for dog shows. We are only taking 4 of the 5 babies as we are keeping the runt for showing next year and of the 4 only 3 will take part in the actual show.

Luckily the same doesn't go on in the shows we go to with our boys....:faint:

Good luck and pics please...before dinner...

For the record nothing is processed and cooked onsite. It is all done long after the show has ended by outside companies in their facilities.
